How to watch Welcome to Wrexham in Australia

When you think Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, your mind likely goes to things like Deadpool or It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, respectively. But even though it sounds like the setup for a joke, this comedy duo bought one of the oldest football clubs in the world, Wrexham FC, then made a documentary about it all.

If you’re a fan of football, funnies or a full-on Rocky-like sports story, you may be keen to check out the Welcome to Wrexham documentary.

The only straightforward way to watch Welcome to Wrexham in Australia is via Disney Plus. Subscribers can find it in the Star tab (or by searching). For those unaware, Star is where Disney Plus puts content from its Hulu US streaming service that’s not quite the family-friendly fit that most typical Disney content is.

If you’re not yet signed up to Disney Plus, there are a few pricing options. Disney Plus costs $13.99 a month or $139.99 per year, which is the equivalent of 12 months for the price of 10. Alternatively, Disney Plus offers a OnePass bundle, which costs $14.99 a month for Disney Plus and a OnePass bundle for free delivery from certain Australian brands.

At the time of writing, there was no free trial for Disney Plus, so you’ll have to pay at least $13.99 to watch Welcome to Wrexham.

The first season of Welcome to Wrexham started streaming on Disney Plus 25 August 2022 with the opening two episodes. Subsequent episodes were mainly released in two- or three-episode drops each week until 12 October 2022.

Fans of the first season can rejoice because Welcome to Wrexham has been greenlit for a second season, with episodes dropping in 2023.

Welcome to Wrexham has all of the trappings of a Hollywood underdog story, including the big-name inclusions of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. The comedy pair are the newish owners and stewards of Wrexham Football Club. They believe they can take the third-oldest Welsh soccer team from the low-tier National League and up into the English Football League.
