There was once a time when you could count on every new smartphone coming with a free charger and a set of earbuds included in the box. For better and worse, those days are well and truly behind us. Even if you spend big on Samsung's glitzy Galaxy S24 Ultra, chances are you won't get anything better than a generic USB-C cable.

If you're a Samsung stalwart, that's a shame. Recent flagship devices like the Galaxy S24 Ultra come with support for charging speeds of as high as 45W fast charging. That's quick enough to get you from a flat zero charge up to 60% in just half an hour.

If you're not sure where to start when it comes to tracking down a Samsung charger that'll let you make that promise into a reality, you've come to the right place. This article is our comprehensive rundown on the best Samsung chargers for your house, office, car and overseas travel.

What to consider when buying a Samsung phone charger

Pin
Ports

If a charger doesn't have the right ports for your Samsung phone, there's no point even considering. For that reason, the first thing you check out should be the number and type of ports.

Heads Up
Speed

While the number of ports on a given charger should be a consideration, the speed at which those ports operate is a much more important thing to keep in mind. Higher is better here, as it means you'll be able to get your Samsung phone topped up sooner rather than later.

Light Bulb
Safety

When it comes to accessories that deal directly in the transmission of power, like chargers, it can pay to go with a more expensive and well-known brand since it means you'll get the peace of mind that comes with knowing that they probably aren't cutting corners on safety.

Price of course is another thing to consider - but if you're  just after a simple charger, you don't need to shell out the big bucks.

Right now, the Belkin Dual USB-C GaN Wall Charger is our favourite charging accessory when it comes to both Samsung's new devices and Apple's latest iPhones. There are a handful of reasons we rate it above the rest.

The first is that it keeps things simple. With a design just as sleek as a premium smartphone, Belkin's Dual USB-C GaN Wall Charger features the latest in gallium nitrate charging tech, a programmable power supply and two USB-C ports. The first of these supports charging speeds of up to 65W. That sum shrinks down to 45W if you're using the second port at the same time, which in turn caps out at 20W.

The other thing we like about this charger is that it's made by Belkin. There's no shortage of brands and manufacturers playing in the portable power and phone charger space, but few have enjoyed the kind of staying power and come with the pedigree that Belkin has.

The Belkin Dual USB-C GaN Wall Charger isn't quite the cheapest Samsung charger you can find nowadays but if you're after something that's reasonably affordable, unlocks the faster charging speeds that your new Samsung phone is capable of offering and doesn't cut corners along the way then this is the way to go.

Anker is usually our go-to when it comes to cheap Samsung chargers but it's recently been dethroned by Aerostralia. Produced by the latter, this 45W fast-charger only has a single USB-C port but comes bundled with a 2-meter long USB-C port that's capable of up to 100W of passthrough.

While it doesn't have the pedigree that you get with a more established brand like Belkin, Aerostralia has thrown in the promise of a 365-day guarantee, 90-day free replacement, and a 30-day  refund should you need it if anything goes wrong. It's also about half the price of the official Samsung 45W fast charger so if you're looking to save some money it's an obvious alternative to consider.

How do Samsung chargers work?

While some older Samsung devices might rely on the aging Micro USB port for charging, the vast majority of modern devices produced by the manufacturer rely on USB-C instead. Despite this shift, the nuts and bolts of how phone chargers work haven't changed all that much in recent times.

To start with, you'll still need both a charging brick and a charging cable. When you plug it into a wall socket or other power source, the aforementioned charging brick converts high voltage alternating current electricity into a low voltage direct current (DC) instead.

This current then travels through the connected charging cable to your Samsung phone. Besides the shape and size, one of the big differences between different charging ports like USB, Lightning and USB-C is the amount of current they can be supplied when it comes to charging.

After the current has made its way through to your device it then triggers a chemical reaction that generates a charge within the battery inside it. Every time your Samsung smartphone needs to draw on electricity to function, part of that charge gets used up. Eventually, you'll need to charge it back up again.

Despite the simplicity here, this process of charging up a smartphone battery isn't as dumb as it sounds. If you run too much current through the battery too quickly you could end up spoiling the reaction or overheating your device and damaging the components inside it. To prevent that from happening, most Android and Samsung phones use a chip controller and other safety measures.

If you don't mind paying a premium for extra flexibility, Belkin's BoostCharge Hybrid is a clever take on the travel charger that combines fast charging, travel adapters and a 5000mAh built-in power bank.

While there's a thrill to that much functionality consolidated into a single device, it does come with a few caveats. For example, the BoostCharge Hybrid only offers charging speeds of as fast as 25W. Still, if you're the kind of person that gets a kick out of the notion of not having to carry as many gadgets around with you then there's a good chance it'll be up your alley and a perfect companion for your Samsung smartphone.

If you're looking for the one Samsung wireless charger to rule them all, you shouldn't look past this one. While Apple never quite delivered the wider minimalist take on wireless chargers it promised, several other tech brands including Samsung have managed to make this vision a reality in the form of the Samsung Trio Charger.

Although the 7.5W wireless charging here is a fair bit slower than what a wired charger can do, the elegant design here skews towards minimalism in a way that's as easy to like as the fact that you can charge your Samsung phone, watch and true wireless earbuds at the same time.

If you're looking for a car charger that'll let you make the most of the 45W fast charging that high-end devices like the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra can offer, then your options aren't especially numerous.

Our pick of the lot is this Zumist USB-C car charger. It features a simple and compact design that pairs up a slimmer USB-C with a more old-school USB-A port. The former can offer up to 60W fast charging (when used alone) while the latter caps out at 30W.
