Crunchyroll deals: 16% off Premium
Despite its enduring popularity, anime has always been under-represented by mainstream streamers and broadcasters in the West. For many young Australians, Cheez TV was something of a gateway, with early-morning broadcasts of Pokémon, Digimon, Dragon Ball Z, CardCaptors, Sailor Moon and more. Those lucky enough to have Foxtel would eventually graduate to Toonami on Cartoon Network and more "mature" anime like Neon Genesis Evangelion and Bleach. In the mid-2000s, with nowhere else to turn, those same people probably came into contact with Crunchyroll, a dedicated pirating site for anime shows where enthusiasts would share fan-made English subtitles for shows that didn't officially offer them.
After a series of investments and acquisitions, Crunchyroll eventually went legit and slowly acquired the rights to stream some of the world's most popular anime series (and digital mangas) available. It's still free to this day (if you can handle regular ad breaks).
Paying for Crunchyroll Premium will get you access to offline viewing, English dubs, up to four simultaneous streams and access to the Crunchyroll Game Vault, a collection of anime-inspired games for PC and mobile. It doesn't come cheap, but you don't have to full price (or anything at all if you're just looking to check it out).

Crunchyroll free trial
While you can technically try Crunchyroll for free simply by visiting the website and taking advantage of the free ad-supported tier, you can also try both the Fan and Mega Fan plans for seven days without paying anything. Just be sure to cancel before your seven days are up, or else you'll be charged the $10.99 or $13.99 monthly fee for Fan or Mega Fan, respectively.
These free trials will allow you to experience Crunchyroll ad-free on more devices. Plus, Mega Fan subscribers can check out the Crunchyroll Game Vault, which is kind of like Apple Arcade or Xbox Game Pass.
Crunchyroll plans
Crunchyroll offers two paid plans in Australia: Fan Plan and Mega Fan Plan. Fan Plan offers one stream in 1080p HD with no ad breaks. Mega Fan Plan offers up to four ad-free streams in 1080p HD plus the option to download titles for offline viewing and access to Crunchyroll Game Vault.
Crunchyroll annual plan discount
Like many of its competitors, Crunchyroll offers a tasty discount if you commit to a full 12 months. Whereas other services offer an annual discount on every tier, Crunchyroll only offers its Mega Fan plan with an annual discount. Signing up for the 12-month Mega Fan plan will effectively save you about 16% over the course of the year ($27.90). That's essentially two months free which isn't half bad if you're anime watchlist isn't getting any shorter.
Better yet, the annual plan still comes with a 7-day free trial. However, it's worth pointing out that you will be up for a lump-sum payment of $139.99 for 12 months of Crunchyroll at the end of your trial.
Stream Crunchyroll for free

Lastly, if you don't need the English dubs (voice acting), and can handle a few advertisements, you can stream as much Crunchyroll as you like for free. You won't get access to any of the paid features, like the Crunchyroll Games Vault, but you will still be able to watch most non-English versions of the latest anime. You don't even need to create a login.
