Vacuuming that doesn't suck

Samsung Bespoke Jet is a thoughtfuly designed stick vacuum that genuinely addresses common pain points. It's long battery life, hard-to-clog design, and auto-empty station cemmented it at the vacuum to beat.

If you think vacuum you probably think Dyson, but there are so many other manufacturers out there vying to make the best stick vacuum. According to our testing, some of them are in fact succeeding.

Cordless vacuums have become immensley popular in Australia, and why wouldn't they. They're easier to move than barrel vacuums, lighter, don't need cords, and most don't need dustbags. Plus they take up way less space which is absolutely crucial as more and more of us take up apartment living. With this surge in popularity came more and more options. Honestly, it can be overwhelming, but we're here to help.

In this guide we take a look at the best stick vacuum cleaners in Australia. Every vacuum featured is one we have reviewed, tested, and rated- the TLDR: we wouldn't recommend something we wouldn't buy ourselves.

How we pick the best stick vacuums

Price Tag

Price

Our scoring system takes the outright price of stick vacuums into account. The lower the price, the better the score. Since cheap vacuums have trade-offs, this isn't weighted as heavily as other categories however

Best of the best stick vacuum cleaners

Samsung Bespoke Jet
"The Bespoke Jet is undeniably a premium product, but it's also one that genuinely removes some tedium from the chore. And even if vacuuming is still kinda rubbish, at least you won't find yourself swearing at the Bespoke Jet in frustration."

pro
Reasons to buy
  • Self-emptying base station is a game changer
  • Adjustable height
  • Attachments (especially pet fur one) work well
con
Reasons to avoid
  • Pricey
  • Mop attachment isn't worth it

Samsung took a bunch of vacuuming's pain points and made them less painful with the Bespoke Jet. Equipped with a free-standing docking and auto-empty station, you will rarely need to poke a chopstick in the chamber to empty it out properly. Smart clog detection gives on-device prompts as to where a clog is to stop you needing to search around in every nook and cranny of the stick vacuum to find the source of the problem. Plus, it mops!

Not only did the Samsung Jet score the highest in performance, but it has a huge amount of included attachments, a hefty dustbin, and a solid build to it. Nothing on this device feels flimsy, but it weighs in at just 2.7kg making it easy to use for extended periods of time.

While $1,299 is a high price to pay for a vacuum cleaner, it is cheaper than a lot of Dyson products, and in our testing the Samsung Bespoke Jet is the most thoughtful and practical stick vacuum available in Australia.

Heads Up

Pssst

Psst! There is a newer version of the Samsung Bespoke Jet called Bespoke Jet Plus Pro and the Plus Elite. The original Jet is excellent but because it is a bit older, stock is limited (but on the plus side what is left is cheaper).
We get that it might be dissapointing if you can't find one, so you might want to check out the Samsung Jet Plus Pro instead; here are a couple of places to get one.

Next best stick vacuum

Shark PowerDetect Corded Vacuum
"Without a doubt, this is the most powerful and efficient vacuum cleaner we have encountered, but it isn’t for the faint of heart."
- Anula Wiwatowska

Reasons to buy
  • Most powerful vacuum we have tested
  • Best option for pet fur
  • Lots of clever design features and accessories
con
Reasons to avoid
  • Crazy heavy
  • Corded design

Even though the Shark PowerDetect isn't exactly a stick vacuum, it is well worth considering if you're looking for something powerful. In our testing the vacuum picked up over 99% of testing debris, and sucked up pet fur that had been embedded in the carpet for years. All of this without getting any fur stuck in the rollers. When we say powerful, we mean it.

It also has an intelligent design that allows it to be used as a high-powered handheld vacuum. The large dustbin, and vacuum wand detatch from the main body, and you can pop on accessories to get into hard to reach places.

On top of this there are other fun little additions, liekt he Odour Neutraliser that emits a pleasant smell while you vacuum, and included attachments like the Pet Power Brush.

The downsides however are that this vacuum is insanely heavy weighing in at 7kg. That is double what you'd get with any of our other picks on this page, so you'll need to have a strong upper body if you want to do long cleaning sessions with the PowerDetect. It is also a corded vacuum, which allows for the high power, but makes it that little bit more of a mission to use. We think these trade-offs will be worth it if you need a vacuum that can handle the toughest situations, but if they're deal breakers feel free to scroll on.

Heads Up

Pssst

Psst! Are you looking for a cheaper option? Well you're in luck, there are plenty of cheaper options from Shark. If you want something with similar features we would recommend the Shark Lift Away Upright, or if you want something more pet focused, the Pet Vacuum with Self Cleaning Brushroll should do the trick.

Best Dyson stick vacuum

Dyson V12 Detect Slim
Factoring in the power of the suction, the excellent battery life, the satisfaction and morbid curiosity that comes with the laser-precision head, your home might just be the cleanest it's ever been.

pro
Reasons to buy
  • Detect laser shows ALL the dust
  • Lots of great attachments
  • Lightweight design makes it easy to use
con
Reasons to avoid
  • Small chamber tends to get clogged easily
  • Difficult to clean

Dyson's V12 Detect Slim is a lightweight stick vacuum which performs well but won't be the right call for everyone. This model comes with a green LED laser light that unearths more dust and dirt than you could imagine on your floors. It is a nifty feature but only available on the microfibre roller used for hard flooring. If you're rocking carpet then it will unfortunately go to waste.

It's lightweight form means the V12 Detect is easy to manouever but it also means a couple of trade-offs to keep it that way. The slim design results in the vacuum tube being easy to clog and difficult to clean, plus the dustbin is very small at just 0.35L. For pet owners in particular this Dyson vacuum probably won't cut it.

In saying that, if you've got a relatively small space, with predominantley hard flooring, and don't have excessive amounts of fur to deal with, the V12 Detect makes for a satisfying and sleek cleaning machine. Even better if you can get a good deal on it.

Stick vacuum cleaners compared

Dyson is obviously a big player, but there are a bunch of other stick vacuum cleaner manufacturers available in Australia. We review products across Samsung, Dyson, Hoover, Acerpure, and well anyone else you can stick a vacuum at. Below we compare the main features of the top performers in the cordless vacuum space.
