Almost perfect
Mova has entered the Australian market swinging with the Z50 Ultra. Apart from some a loud auto-empty, and some edge-mopping issues, this robovac is practically perfect.

Robot vacuum cleaners have been around for over 20 years now, which is quite frankly crazy to think about. In that time the little robots have made huge advancements; lidar navigation and mapping, auto-empty stations, self-cleaning mops, even humidity linked settings, and most recently robot arms that can pick up after you.

In a mature market it is harder to pick out the best robot vacuum cleaner, unless you've tested a bunch of them. Thats where we step in. I personally review at least one robot vac each month, but you'd be hard pressed to find a time there aren't three roaming around my house. Across the extended team, we clocked 17 robot vacuum reviews in 2024 alone. Our testing is consistent, looking at elements like particle efficiency, battery life, smart navigation, and reliability, but mostly we want to connect you with the robot vacuum that can do the most without your help.

Weighing these against the price, we score and rank every vacuum to help find the best robot vacuum cleaner available in Australia.

\\ Why you can trust Reviews.org Australia
At Reviews.org Australia we take reviewing stuff very seriously. We spend days putting every product through its paces, and we pride ourselves on telling you the whole story, not just breaking down the specs. We'll tell you the good, the bad, the weird, and what parts of it actually matter. Read more about how we review robot vacuums and our review philosophy here.

How we pick the best robot vacuum cleaners

Price Tag

Price

Robot vacuums are becoming high ticket items, so we look at the value proposition that higher price point gives you. If there is similar performance at something half the price, then we will be sure to let you know.

Bullhorn

Design

Design takes in to account the size and capacity of the dustbin and the base station plus its functionality. We also look at the roller design taking in to account how well features like "zero tangle" rollers live up to their claims.

Info Box

Performance

We compare the practical particle performance of every robot vacuum. Our scores are based on how well they clean up small and medium debris, and how well the mop handles wet, dry, and sticky messes. Our testing also looks at object avoidance, navigation, and threshold clearance.

Expert testing

Every robot vacuum cleaner we rank is reviewed by our experts. In a controlled environment, we test things like; particle performance, mop and edge performance, the app accuracy and usefulness, and device reliability.

Best of the best robot vacuum cleaner

Mova Z50 Ultra: Hard to fault
"Mova's Z50 Ultra robot vacuum is more than just good, it is near perfect. The device has the best clearance rate of any other vacuum we've tested, and intelligent mapping and navigation to match." Anula Wiwatowska
Home & Lifestyle Tech Editor

Suction: 19,00Pa | Base station: Self emptying + 75℃ mop washing | Mopping: Roller mop + edge cleaning | Navigation: Yes, AI-powered detection | Warranty: 3 years | Security Updates: No information available | Matter enabled: No

pro
Reasons to buy
  • Excellent clearance rates on all messes
  • Some of the best mopping, and uses warm water
  • Entirely independent
con
Reasons to avoid
  • LOUD
  • Edge mopping can push extra mess onto the wall at times

Just when you think the robot vacuum sector is full, a device like the Mova Z50 Ultra lands and proves you wrong. It is within the first lot of vacuums Mova released in Australia and it has blown the competition out of the water.

While the Z50 Ultra has much of the same technology in comparably prices robot vacuums, it is just slightly more reliable and effective for the same price. It's tangle free rollers live up to their name, its mopping is top tier, and the suction isn't just powerful, it is effective.

Overall the Z50 Ultra cleared over 98% of all our testing material. Carpet, hard floor, mopping, vacuuming, edge cleaning - it blitzed them all. The only issue we had with the cleaning capacity is the extendable mop arm would smear sticky messes on the baseboards occasionally. In the scheme of things, that won't matter to most consumers.

It's smart navigation and mapping was also incredibly reliable with the device able to make its way around my home for weeks without event. It doesn't seem like it, but that is high praise.

Across our testing the major red flag was how loud the vacuum is during operation. People with skiddish pets, napping children, or who just don't like too much ruckus in the house beware, but otherwise it is hard not to recommend the Mova Z50 Ultra.

Roborock Saros 10: Skinny, smart, and off the charts
"The vacuuming and mopping performance is off the charts, and it effortlessly cleans tight corners and low-clearance furniture." Hannah Geremia
Reviewer

Specifications: Suction: 22,000Pa | Base station: Self emptying + 80℃ mop washing | Mopping: VibraRise 4.0 mop pad + edge cleaning | Navigation: LiDAR + ReactiveAI 3.0 Obstacle Recognition | Warranty: 2 years | Security Updates: Until May 2027 | Matter enabled: Yes

pro
Reasons to buy
  • Zero Tangle rollers work a treat on pet hair
  • Easily fits underneath lowline furniture
  • Quiet, even on most powerful setting
con
Reasons to avoid
  • Cable eater
  • Bumps into people

The Saros 10 only narrowly misses out on the top spot due to its price. For the most part the Qrevo Curv and the Saros 10 are neck-in-neck, but when you're asking for an extra $200 we expect the value proposition to reflect that. The extra money buys you a slimline design under 8cm tall, which makes it small enough to get underneath furniture for a more comprehensive clean, and a vibrating mop pad as opposed to a dual rotating set up.

Measuring in at 7.98cm the Saros 10 fit underneath all the furniture in our testing. If you've got tricky spots you hate trying to get at with your stick vacuum, this is an excellent solution. Our testing found it thrives on hard floors however. The Saros 10 had a 98% clearance rate for mopping and vacuuming on tiles, compared to a 91% for vacuuming on carpet. While the huge 22,000Pa suction power will pick up a lot of debris on soft flooring, it can't quite get everything.

Circling back to that mopping clearance rate for a second. Usually we rank vibrating mop heads below a dual-rotating mop head system, but Roborock has really got this one figured out. Like on its old flagship the S8 MaxV Ultra, the Saros 10's VibraRise mop system tackles sticky, and wet messes with flare.

Fitted out with self emptying, and a self cleaning mop with water up to 80 degrees celsius, the Saros 10 is an independent powerhouse. Apart from wanting to munch on cables and occassionally bumping into your feet, this robovac should keep your house clean without your help.

pro
Reasons to buy
  • Great price
  • Solid vacuuming performance
  • Space saving design
con
Reasons to avoid
  • Navigation isn't 100% reliable
  • The app needs work

The Roomba 105 Combo is one of the cheapest, new robot vacuum cleaners you can buy. While most good deals are reserved for older models that are both past their prime and their security update cycle, the Roomba 105 is brand new and starts at under $400. That is hard to find in the market these days.

Performance wise it isn't top tier, but you can't expect it to be for a price that low. It's particle clearance rate is solid for what you're paying, it will mostly navigate your home albeit using an old school bumper system rather than active avoidance, and it is super easy to set up. If you just want a small robot butler to sweep up after you, this baby will do just that with little issue.

For the basic vacuuming bot and the charging dock you'll pay $379, but you can build this same device up if you're happy to spend a bit more. $120 more will get you the mopping add on, and another $200 on top of that will get you the self emptying dock.

Personally, I think you'll be happiest going with the cheapest option. In my testing I found the mopping and the self-emptying station to be pretty unreliable, but at its most basic the Roomba 105 is an absolute bargain.

Dreame makes excellent robot vacuums, so we would assume this one does pretty well for the price. Equipped with a mop, an anti-tangle rubber brush, voice control, and 5,000Pa suction power, this budget option will pack a punch.

Ecovacs X8 Pro Omni: Mopping pro

4.25
RRP$2,499
"I can confidently dub the X8 Pro Omni the best mopping robot on the Australian market, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the overall user experience will live up to that." Anula Wiwatowska
Home and Lifestyle Tech Editor

Specifications: Suction: 18,000Pa | Base station: Self emptying + Hot water mop washing | Mopping: Roller mop | Navigation: AIVI 3D 3.0 | Warranty: 3 years | Security Updates: Until 17/10/2027 | Matter enabled: Yes

pro
Reasons to buy
  • Near perfect mopping performance
  • First automatic detergent dispenser on Ecovacs product
  • Roller mop makes for less tangled cables
con
Reasons to avoid
  • Carpet performance really suffers
  • Intelligence is not reliable

According to our testing the latest Ecovacs release, the X8 Pro Omni has the best mopping available on a robot vacuum cleaner. It utilises a telescopic roller mop which cleans itself as it goes. This means a dirty mop never actually touches the ground so the floor is able to actually get clean rather than just pushing the muck around.

In our testing the device cleaned up more than 99% of dry, wet, and sticky messes on hardwood floor. Even up against edges. This is the best result we have seen in any of the robot vacuums we have tested, which is unsurprising considering the technology comes from Tineco (our favourite hard floor cleaners). You can also use Ecovacs approved cleaning solution to up that mopping experience even further.

Admittedly the carpet performance isn't as good on this robovac, and the intelligence is a bit behind our best robot vacuum pick. The X8 Pro Omni may need a bit of a helping hand to get set up, so if you're willing to put in the effort you'll be rewarded with sparkly clean hard floors.

How we test and score robot vacuum cleaners

We test how well the robot vacuum is able to remove medium debris (dry oats), and small debris (fine salt) from both hard floors and carpetted spaced. This is recorded as a clearance rate in percentage points.

Our experts test how well an average mopping cycle is able to remove wet (tomato sauce, water) and sticky (honey, maple syrup) messes from hard floors, and what the remaining residue is like. This is recorded as a clearance rate in percentage points.

We also look at the mopping technology and whether the robovac has adaptive cleaning features.

We look at how tangled a robot vacuum's "anti-tangle" rollers actually get. This is tested against our usual household dander which usually consists of animal fur, human hair, and various sewing threads. We rate this based on how many tangle related blockages occur during the testing period, and their frequency.

We test how well robot vacuums are able to avoid usual household objects. The smaller the items the robovac is able to avoid, the better it scores. A perfect score is awarded only if the vacuum avoids all obstacles and doesn't get stuck.

We assess how easy the robot vacuum companion app is to use, and how accurate the mapping is. We look at things like room mapping, how easy it is to edit maps, and other features like real-time object mapping.

We use a star rating system to demonstrate how reliable the robot vacuum is. This takes into account particle performance, object avoidance, independence, and cleaning schedules. We take a holistic look at just how hands-off the whole cleaning system is.

This looks at the system's size, and what the base station includes. More advanced systems like self-cleaning mops, and auto-empty stations yield better scores but we also look at the robot's size, threshold clearance, and aesthetic design too.

We perform the same particle and mopping tests specifically against wall and furniture edges, and record the results as a clearance rate percentage.

We take into account any specific edge cleaning technology in this score.
