There’s something in tales of deep dark horror that has its appeal to us, whether it’s peeking through our fingers at scary stuff while hiding behind the sofa, or relishing in the release of well-crafted tales designed to terrify. That’s the core premise of FX’s American Horror Story, an anthology series spanning 12 seasons so far. Each season tells its own story, often using the same excellent cast of actors.

American Horror Story is one of those shows that Foxtel and Binge share alike, so if you’re on either platform, you’ll be able to catch all 11 series released to date, as well as the upcoming 12th series. Foxtel and Binge are also the only place you can watch episodes of the spin-off American Horror Stories series, which puts each tale within each episode, instead of season-long story arcs.

If you’re looking to catch up on each finely crafted series of American Horror Story, Binge is going to be the more affordable way to do so.

If you don’t already have Binge, you can grab 2 weeks of access for the not-at-all-horrifying price of…

Free.

Sorry if that shocked you. But not really, because hey, that’s what horror is all about, right?

You’ll have to act fast, as Binge’s two-week free trial offer ends on 3 October. The good news is Binge will still offer a one-week free trial.

Even past that free trial, you can get into Binge for a relatively affordable price. The baseline Binge package costs $10/month, but that comes with ads, so it’s not our recommendation to go down that route. The best value Binge plan for our money is the $16 tier, which scores you sweet HD quality and no ads getting in the way of your American Horror Story binges.

Stream it on Disney Plus

An anthology series dealing with serial killers, ghosts, witches and more doesn’t sound exactly like the kind of show you’d find on Disney+… but then Disney+ is a lot more than just the house of mouse these days, with its Star selection of programs including the first 10 seasons of American Horror story. That means it’s not quite as complete as Binge – and there’s no sign of the American Horror Stories spinoff either – but if your tastes run more towards Marvel, Star Wars and Mickey, it’s certainly another way to get (mostly) up to speed.

When does American Horror Story season 12 release in Australia?

Seasons 1-10 are now available to watch on Disney+, while Binge and Foxtel subscribers can watch Seasons 1-11, as well as Seasons 1-2 of American Horror Stories.

Season 12 of American Horror Story, which has generated buzz by featuring Kim Kardashian, has been impacted by the US writer’s/actor’s strike, but the first part of the season will start airing on Binge from the 21st of September 2023. It’s not clear when the second part of the season will start, as the strike has impacted production of the show.

What is American Horror Story about?

This gets tricky because the very essence of any horror themed show is basically about anticipation, and we don’t want to spoil anything here if we can avoid it.

Broadly speaking, however, American Horror Story is an anthology show that resets itself for each season with a new US-based setting to explore standard horror tropes in some very interesting ways.

FX’s own summary of the show doesn’t spoil too much while giving you a taste of what to expect:

"Since 2011, the creators of the limited series have redefined the horror genre with various installments featuring a creepy asylum, a coven of witches, a traveling freak show, a haunted hotel and the apocalypse itself."

Season 12 focuses on Emma Roberts as a pregnant actress convinced that sinister forces are trying to stop her baby from being born. It’s being pitched as a feminist update of Rosemary’s Baby.
