For those in the know, Belong is a Telstra-owned brand that offers discounted mobile and internet plans. On the internet front, Belong offers competitive pricing for a few key NBN fixed-line plans as well as postpaid mobile broadband plans.

Belong internet fast facts
  • Belong is a budget brand owned by Telstra, which offers NBN fixed-line plans on the major speed tiers, including NBN 50 (the most popular one).
  • Users can also access internet plans from Belong via a handful of postpaid mobile plans, which use the 3G, 4G and 5G Telstra networks.
  • Belong uses a simplified plan structure with configuration and management handled online.
  • Save money with a bring-your-own (BYO) compatible modem or purchase a preconfigured Belong modem at checkout.

What are the different types of Belong internet plans?

Belong sells internet plans across two technology types: NBN fixed-line and mobile broadband. NBN fixed-line connections are available to most metropolitan homes in Australia. Belong’s mobile broadband plans operate on the Telstra wholesale network, which means they’re available to most Australians.

Belong NBN fixed-line internet plans

Most homes in metropolitan areas can access Belong’s NBN fixed-line plans, specifically those connected via Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP), Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC), Fibre-to-the-Curb (FTTC), Fibre-to-the-Building (FTTB) or Fibre-to-the-Node (FTTN) technologies. Belong offers NBN 25/5, NBN 50/20 and NBN 100/20 plans for these homes.

Belong mobile broadband plans

Belong also sells a small selection of mobile broadband plans on the Telstra wholesale network. Mobile broadband plans start competitively priced with a reasonable amount of data, then reach up to hundreds of gigabytes if you spend more. Mobile broadband plans are compatible with any data-only device that has a SIM slot: namely, certain model tablets, laptops or WiFi dongles. You can also use a mobile phone but it won’t have cellular calls or SMS. Note that Belong details additional requirements for compatible mobile broadband devices:

  • 3G: 850MHz band
  • 4G: 700MHz and 1800MHz bands
  • 5G: 3.6GHz band (plus 5G compatibility)

What do you get with Belong internet plans?

Belong NBN fixed-line plans are relatively feature-light, but they all include unlimited data. Save money by using a BYO compatible modem or purchase one from Belong when you sign up. Note that Belong doesn’t offer any home phone service with its NBN internet plans. Here are the typical evening speeds you can expect with a Belong NBN fixed-line plan (between 7:00pm and 11:00pm nightly):

  • NBN 25/5: 25Mbps download, 4Mbps upload
  • NBN 50/20: 48Mbps download, 17Mbps upload
  • NBN 100/20: 95Mbps download, 17Mbps upload

Note that Belong says actual speeds for FTTC, FTTB and FTTN homes are confirmed after connection (and they may be slower). If you input your address on the Belong website, you should see an overall download and upload speed estimate relative to your NBN connection technology.

If you’re after a Belong mobile broadband plan, all of them have data and speed caps. Belong’s cheaper mobile broadband plans are capped at 150Mbps download speed, while its priciest option has up to 250Mbps download speeds on 5G and up to 180Mbps on 4G.

Belong internet deals

If there’s a Belong internet deal today, you’ll find it listed below. This may include specific Belong NBN plans or mobile broadband plans.

Belong plan features

Whether you choose a Belong NBN or mobile broadband plan, there are some crossover features. For starters, that’s straightforward online account management with a Telstra-owned company that’s 100% carbon neutral. Belong plans also have $0 activation fees and no contracts.

New Belong NBN customers also receive a Belong SIM card with $80 credit. Belong mobile broadband plans also include data gifting. You need to have at least 1.3GB of data to send 1GB data blocks to an active Belong customer. Gift data via the Belong app. Note that international roaming is only compatible with Belong mobile plans and not mobile broadband ones.

Belong internet plan modems

If you’re comfortable with the router or modem-router you’re currently using, save some money by signing up for a BYO-modem Belong NBN plan. If you’d like a preconfigured alternative, consider adding the Belong modem. This is a rebranded Technicolor DWA0122 modem-router, which should work with all NBN technology types.

Belong says the DWA0122 is built for plug-and-play configuration. It has dual-band 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi 5 bands with four gigabit Ethernet ports for wired connections to local devices and a single USB 2.0 port. Belong doesn’t sell any modem dongles for its mobile broadband plans, so be sure to bring a SIM-compatible device.

Belong coverage map

Belong NBN plans should be available to any home in metropolitan areas, specifically those with FTTP, HFC, FTTC, FTTB or FTTN technologies. Visit the NBN Co website and enter your address if you’d like to know your home’s NBN technology. Anywhere with 3G, 4G or 5G coverage from the Telstra wholesale network should work with Belong mobile broadband plans. Collectively, that’s 98.8% of the Australian population. If you’d like an idea of Belong’s mobile broadband coverage, use the interactive map below. Note that Telstra is planning on ending 3G network services in June 2024.
