If there’s anything that people have always wanted, it’s world peace and custom TV channel packages. Well, Verizon provides at least one of those things, if you’re willing to pay for it.

It’s true, Verizon bundles offer custom cable TV packages with no annual contracts. And yes, you generally pay a little more than you would with another service provider. But if you play your cards right, you can build a custom bundle with only the TV channels you care about and walk away with a great deal.

No annual contracts
One of the best things about Verizon bundles is that you can pay month to month. If you change your mind and want to cancel before the end of the year, there’s no early termination fee. That’s good business.

Pros

  • Custom cable TV channel lineup
  • Sharable internet speed
  • Unlimited phone calls

Cons

  • Variable price

Opting for a Verizon custom TV bundle feels kind of like going to Build-A-Bear, except much more fun. You can choose from different TV channel packs and only pay for the channels you actually want to watch.

What we like

One thing we like across the board with Verizon are its custom TV packages with no annual contracts. With the Custom TV+Fios Internet 150/150+Phone bundle, you get everything covered for a fairly reasonable price.
What you pay will depend on which channels you want. Thankfully, you have options. You can pay month to month rather than commit for a whole year.

Custom cable channels

Before we get you too excited, you should know that Verizon bundles aren’t truly à la carte when it comes to channel lineups.

Rather than picking specific channels (if only), you can pick from different channel packs, each with 30–60 channels. If you can narrow your TV selection down to a single pack or two, you can get a better deal than you would with another bundle service provider.

150/150 download speed

We recommend you shoot for an internet speed around 150 Mbps to get the most value out of your bundle.

With 150 Mbps, you should have no problem sharing a connection with all the streamers, gamers, and online shoppers in your household. You can stream episodes of Big Little Lies while the kids have all the internet they need for homework on the same network. (They better be doing homework.)

Unlimited phone calls

Not everybody wants a home phone these days, but there certainly are advantages to getting one. Besides, adding a home phone to your Verizon bundle should only cost you a couple extra bucks a month.

Megaphone icon
Why would I need a home phone line?
Maybe you live in a more rural area with spotty wireless coverage, and you want a reliable way to make a call. Or maybe you have family in Canada and Mexico that you’d like to call long distance a couple times a year without any extra fees.

What we don’t like

The downside of opting for a custom channel lineup is that the price you pay can really fluctuate.

Stick to this general rule of thumb with custom cable Verizon TV bundles: Don’t pick more than two packs. If you can narrow it down to one or two channel packs, you’ll get a deal. If not, consider going with another different bundle service provider.

The beauty of bundles is that you can mix and match internet speeds and TV channel counts. Check out the alternative Verizon bundles for those of you looking for a little more, or a little less, in terms of TV and internet.

Pros

  • Custom cable TV channels
  • Sharable internet

Cons

  • Channel tradeoffs
  • No home phone

Don’t need a home phone in your life? Just cut it out of the equation altogether. As long as you have decent, consistent wireless service, you shouldn’t stress about not having home line options.

What we like

You can build your own channel lineup and go with whatever internet speed you want. If you usually watch only one type of channel, and you know how much internet speed you need, this Verizon provider bundle makes a lot of sense.

Pick your own channels

Instead of Verizon preselecting a bunch of channels and putting them into different tiered packages, you get to decide which channels to pay for, provided that those channels fit neatly into a single category.

If you stick to specific genres of TV (sports, news, lifestyle, etc.), you can get those channels without paying for the stuff you never watch. It’s not quite à la carte in the sense that you can pick and choose every channel, but at least you can opt out of genres that don’t interest you.

Light Bulb icon
Which channel packs should you pick?
I don’t currently feel the need to keep up with the Kardashians, so I’d opt for the Sports & News channel instead of Lifestyle & Reality. But that’s just me—maybe you feel the complete opposite!

Reliable internet

You can do a lot of internet things with a 150 Mbps network. On average, streaming shouldn’t require more than 20 Mbps per stream, and in most cases, it’s actually way less than that. Even if you have a household of five or six internet users with different devices, a 150 Mbps network should work just fine.

You can always lower that amount to 100 Mbps or 50 Mbps if you think you need less. Or you can raise it up to 300 Mbps or 500 Mbps if you need more (or have more demanding devices than you thought).

What we don’t like

The tradeoff for having a custom cable TV channel lineup is that you’ll end up missing out on some channels. The Verizon bundle custom TV packages don’t come cheap if you get more than one or two channel packs.

Do some soul-searching, decide on the channels you actually do care about, and let go of the rest. What a rejuvenating exercise.

You also don’t get a home phone service in this Verizon bundle. But chances are you’re reading this on one of your wireless devices and can live without the home phone options.

Alternative TV + internet Verizon bundle picks

There are tons of different TV + internet Verizon provider bundles you can choose from. Don’t believe me? That’s fine. Oh wait, here’s a table full of other packages.

Fios Internet 300/300 + phone: Best internet + phone bundle

A Verizon bundle built for streamers and cord-cutters.

Pros

  • Fast internet
  • Unlimited calls

Cons

  • No TV channels

Have you ever thought about joining the league of cord-cutters? It’s like The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, but with more affordable pricing. This internet + phone Verizon provider bundle works perfectly for those of you wanting to adopt the cord-cutting lifestyle.

What we like

If you see yourself spending more time on YouTube than you would flipping channels, this internet-focused Verizon package makes a lot of sense.

Stream in Ultra HD

If your entertainment hours revolve around streaming, you know the annoyance of the buffering wheel.

With a 100 Mbps network, you can easily stream in Ultra HD on your devices. On Netflix, it takes around 28 Mbps to stream in Ultra HD, so if you do the math, you can easily have a household of wireless Ultra HD streamers at the same time.

Pin icon
Let’s do the math . . . for fun.
If you go for the 100 Mbps Verizon internet speed, you can get up to three Ultra HD streams on the same network. Oh, and you can game and refresh Twitter whilst streaming, of course.

Unlimited calls

With all that internet speed, you could just as easily use an online calling provider like Google Voice for all of your phone calls, but hey, you get a home phone too. A home phone can come in handy in a pinch, like when you need to call family during a blizzard, or if you want to order pizza, and your wireless service is down.

What we don’t like

You don’t get any live TV channels with internet + phone Verizon bundle, but that’s kind of the point, right? You might run into problems when it comes to watching live sports or local channels, but if you sign up for a good streaming service, you shouldn’t have a problem.

You’ll get unlimited phone calls no matter which Verizon bundle you pick under the internet + phone umbrella, but you’ll choose your internet speed. Consider some alternative Verizon bundles with phone and internet service.

Pros

  • Affordable pricing (for a Verizon bundle)
  • TV, phone, and internet included

Cons

  • Slower internet

Verizon bundles have a reputation for being not particularly cheap, but if you plan out this triple play bundle wisely, you’ll get a great deal on exactly what you need.

What we like

It’s a budget Verizon bundle, but you still get TV, phone, and internet services. Also, for a budget bundle, you actually get a decent amount of firepower.

Custom cable TV channels

Remember when we said that cryptic thing about planning your Verizon triple play bundle package wisely? This is what we meant.

You get to choose your own TV channel lineup, but the more channels you choose, the more quickly this stops being a budget bundle service. Narrow it down to one, maybe two channel packs, and you’ll stick to your budget.

Enough internet for 1–2 users

If you opt for a 50 Mbps network, you should be fine if the plan is to use the connection solo or share it with a partner.

With just two people (maybe three, if you’re a frugal internet user), you shouldn’t run into issues with wireless streaming, gaming, and browsing the internet. The occasional buffering wheel may appear on your devices, but it should be rare.

Unlimited phone calls (yup, still)

Having a home phone line with unlimited calls is a nice cherry on top of this budget sundae package. You can call family in Canada or Puerto Rico long distance—or you know, family down the street too.

What we don’t like

Your biggest obstacle with this budget Verizon bundle will probably have to do with your internet service network.

You might be surprised how much power apps use on your devices. Streaming Netflix, refreshing Instagram, and even using small gaming apps all take up chunks of your network. You might reach your capacity quicker than you expect.

You won’t find a Verizon bundle service quite as cheap as the Custom TV + Fios Internet 50/50 + phone option we recommend here, but there are some other affordable Verizon bundles with a little more firepower.
