According to our 2026 Most Popular Smart Home Devices survey results, the most popular smart home devices are built for convenience: Smartphones (94%) and smart TVs (68%) lead the pack by a wide margin. But niche connected products are becoming more commonplace too, including smart thermostats (31%), robot vacuums (24%), smart coffee makers (15%), smart pet feeders (12%), and smart home gyms (11%).

Though smartphones are by far the most ubiquitous smart device, other home tech is becoming more commonplace. We'll cover which devices people are using the most and least, by category, at home and on the go, and what's driving those habits.

Key findings

  • The average American household manages 11 connected devices, led by near-universal ownership of smartphones (94%) and smart TVs (68%)
  • Homeowners prioritize peace of mind and efficiency, with high adoption of video doorbells (39%), outdoor cameras (33%), and smart thermostats (31%)
  • Technology is a staple of daily life, with gaming consoles (43%), laptops (42%), and smart speakers (36%) serving as the main hubs for entertainment, work, and voice control
  • Hands-free automation is moving into the mainstream, ranging from robot vacuums (24%) for cleaning to specialized tech like smart pet feeders (12%) and home gyms (11%)
