Optus will technically give you a free Apple Watch Series 7 with any new iPhone 13 series plan, but you’ll still need to pay something extra for it.
New and existing customers that sign up to a phone plan with the iPhone 13, 13 mini, Pro, or Pro Max will get a 41mm Apple Watch S7 entirely free, but you’ll need to commit to a Watch SIM plan for the duration of your phone plan.
With the Watch Promo Plan, you’ll pay $10 extra per month which still ends up being a significant discount on an Apple Watch. Over a 24-month plan the total price comes to $240, down from the RRP of $749. If you want to upgrade to the 44mm version you’ll just need to pay an additional $50 over the course of the plan.
Regardless, you still end up with at least a $509 discount which is nothing to scoff at.
The SIM plan comes with 1GB of data per month and will allow you to share your phone number across both your watch and handset so that you can take phone calls like a spy kid.
Here are the eligible 24-month Optus iPhone 13 (128GB) plans:
While all Optus plans are contract-free - so you can pay out your phone and jet at any time - if you terminate your plan before your contract ends you’ll need to pay out the pro-rated cost of the Apple Watch. On a 24-month plan it comes to $31 per remaining month, and on a 36-month plan it is around $21.
On the other hand, if you’re not in the market for a new watch but could go a new iPhone, then Vodafone may be a better option. Right now the telco is giving a $400 discount on iPhone 13 plans, meaning you can grab one for under $1000.
Here is how the new pricing compares across storage capacity:
On a 24-month plan your monthly repayments on a 128GB model will be $39.53 + plan fees. While on a 36-month plan it will be $26.35 + plan fees. For comparison, if you were to go with Telstra or Optus you’d be paying around $56 per month on a 24-month plan, or $37 across 36-months. Plus the additional SIM fees from those providers.
