The price of Amazon Prime is going up, but there's still time to lock in an annual plan at the old price.

Earlier this month, Amazon Australia announced that the price of a local Amazon Prime membership is set to rise from $6.99 per month to $9.99 per month. The cost of the annual Prime membership plan is also slated to go by $20 to $79 per year.

Existing Prime members will be charged the new price from June 28th onward and if you sign up for a monthly subscription for Prime before May 24th, you'll get one month of the old rate before being moved onto the new one.

However, the best value option here is to sign up for the annual plan before the deadline, 2023. As long as you sign up for a yearly plan before the date above, you can lock in your next year of Prime at a cheaper price point.

It works out to be about $60 in savings compared to the cost of sticking with a month-to-month membership to Prime over the course of a year. In other words, you're paying just shy of 50% less than you would with a monthly plan.

Check out the comparison table below for a sense of how Amazon Prime Video compares to the rest of Australia's streaming landscape.
