Iconic hair styling brand GHD released an updated version of its Mini Hair Straightener, designed for hair as short as 1.27cm long.

The main upgrade to the New Mini is the dual-sensor heating plates. Each plate holds one sensor which consistently monitors the styling temperature.

It's floating ceramic plates are 40% thinner than the GHD Gold hair styler, measuring in at just 1.5cm wide. The manufacturer also claims the high gloss coating on these plates results in 50% more shine than if you were to let your hair dry naturally.

The Mini styler has one set temperature of 185˚C, which is still hot enough to cause damage without a heat protectant, but not hot enough to melt your hair. Studies have shown that temperatures exceeding as low as 140˚C can cause structural damage to hair, with it potentially melting at 220˚C. With a good heat protectant, the GHD Mini Straightener should keep your hair healthier than other alternatives, but can still potentially be more damaging than opting for a hair dryer like the Dyson Nural.

Notably it also has auto sleep mode which shuts off the device after 30 minutes, so you don't have to take a picture to remind yourself that you did in fact unplug your straightener.

GHD's latest straightener retails for $310, and is available directly from GHD and participating retailers.
