When my cable internet bill shot up from $70 to $130 in one month, my first question was, “Who else offers internet in my neighborhood?”

There might be nothing worse than feeling stuck with an internet service that’s expensive (and deceptive). Lucky for me, a week prior, I had just received a mailer advertising the arrival of GFiber in my neighborhood. Phew!

GFiber — formerly known as Google Fiber — has gained a reputation of transparency and dependability since its debut in 2012. For a flat monthly bill of $70 for 1 Gig that’s never changed, I get symmetrical speeds and an extremely reliable connection. I’ve never had to wonder, “Should I switch to something else?” And if that’s not a selling point, I don’t know what is.

GFiber serves several markets across 19 states, and counting. Is it coming to you? I break it all down below.

Why you can trust us

At Reviews.org, our team takes its editorial independence seriously. We may earn money when readers click affiliate links, but we don't work for our brand partners, and they don’t approve our pieces before publication. To learn more, visit our About us page.

Share your experience and rate your internet provider

Your feedback helps others find the right internet provider. Whether your experience was great, frustrating, or somewhere in between, we want to hear about it.

Goodbye, cable. Hello, fiber: a different kind of home internet experience

You’ve heard of Xfinity, Spectrum, and Optimum Internet. These are all cable internet services that primarily rely on hybrid fiber-coaxial systems. This setup combines fiber-optic lines and coaxial cable to bridge ‘the last mile’ to your home.

But fiber-to-the-home internet — the secret sauce of GFiber — takes a more direct approach. Instead of switching to coaxial cable, 100% fiber-optic lines run all the way to your home. Fiber technology provides symmetrical speeds — meaning both your download and upload speeds are equally fast. This makes your online experience smooth and crisp, whether you’re posting a video or downloading a photo album. While you can find up to multi-gig download speeds with cable providers, fiber is a different beast. GFiber has built out a network capable of 20 Gig speed.

In 2026, fast and reliable internet is a non-negotiable necessity. Since the rise of remote work during the pandemic, people can no longer settle for slow speeds and unpredictable connections. Minus one significant outage in the three years I’ve had it, GFiber has never let me down.

Internet without the headache—and the fan base to prove it

GFiber skips the promos, new-customer deals, frilly add-ons, and price hikes. New deals to keep up with every season? Not with GFiber. Because their prices are transparent from the start.

Here’s what I like about GFiber:

  • Three simple plans designed to fit your lifestyle
  • Flat monthly price
  • Fast (and free) pro installation and self-install kit
  • No extra equipment fees
  • Excellent customer service

Home$100/mo.3 GbpsWi-Fi 7 Router included
Edge$150/mo.8 GbpsWi-Fi 7 Router included

GFiber skips the typical home internet frustrations: You don’t get charged for installation, overage fees when you use too much data, misleading marketing language around “price locks,” or early termination fees. You can end your GFiber service whenever you want without owing anything extra, as long as you return the GFiber equipment.

Automatic speed upgrades: Earlier this year, GFiber rolled out speed upgrades for its 2 Gig to Home 3 Gig — at no extra cost.

My personal take: I’ve paid $70 ever since I switched to GFiber without ever worrying about sneaky price hikes, expired promo pricing, and hidden fees. I get emails for my monthly auto-pay statement, but the price has never changed. I pay the same price since I installed it, and have peace of mind knowing the price won’t change.

A digital receipt addressed to Monica Yoshida confirming an autopay payment was processed on February 8, 2026. A table shows a $70.00 charge for a "1 Gig Internet - Monthly Service" plan, paid via Visa.

Every month, I get an email informing me that I’ll be charged $70 for my Core 1 Gig GFiber plan. Image by Monica Yoshida, Reviews.org

GFiber’s rapidly expanding coverage

You can find GFiber in 19 states.

A map of the United States showing GFiber's coverage areas as of 2026.

GFiber is only available to around 1% of the U.S. However, its expansion plans for 2026 include many new areas, with significant growth planned in several states. Image from GFiber.

As of 2026, some key expansion areas include:

  • Utah
  • Arizona
  • Colorado
  • Iowa
  • Nebraska
  • Nevada

GFiber’s Blog also announces specific expansion plans, and I went back as far as October 2024 to add its most recent expansion plans:

GFiber is built for what you’re doing today—and whatever the internet dreams up next

GFiber has always seen a future where people are hungry for more internet, bandwidth, and smarter devices. Truthfully, having a multi-gig internet speed is becoming more common. With the deployment of 25 Gig PON technology, GFiber seeks to increase speeds to keep up with overall demand for bigger and better internet via simple software updates rather than disruptive construction.

GFiber and its community impact

The 'GFiber Effect' is a real thing: GFiber moves in, and suddenly the local cable internet company starts offering 'loyalty discounts' they said were impossible last year. But it’s more than just a price drop. GFiber invests in the foundation of the community through programs that actually bridge the gap between 'connected' and 'left behind.'

How GFiber leads the way in communities:

  • Bridges the digital divide: Provides $0/month gigabit internet for Select Affordable and Public Housing program participants and free connections to local nonprofits and community centers where available.
  • Forces market competition: When GFiber enters a city, other internet providers typically lower prices and upgrade their own infrastructure just to keep up.
  • Attracts economic growth: Fast internet capable of symmetrical speeds attracts the relocation of tech startups and sparks growth of local entrepreneurship.
  • Future-ready infrastructure: Its 25G PON network allows cities to support 2026 demands like AI, video, and cloud computing.
  • Supports education: Partners with groups like NTEN since 2015 to provide digital literacy training and STEM programs for underserved students and families.

Get the most out of your GFiber service when it arrives

When GFiber finally shows up at your doorstep, make the most of it with these tips:

  • Update your equipment: As of early 2026, GFiber standardized its Wi-Fi 7 routers for its Home 3 Gig and Edge 8 Gig products. While Wi-Fi 7-ready devices will see the most extreme speeds, all your connected tech can benefit from Google's latest equipment. Not sure what your devices can handle? Use the Wi-Fi speed calculator to see what to expect based on your specific tech setup.
  • $70 monthly - no hidden fees: Starting at $70 per month, GFiber plans offer industry-leading speeds and reliability at a straightforward price.
  • App: Manage your entire network and account with ease through the intuitive, app-first interface. It’s a seamless, high-value experience that puts setup and troubleshooting right at your fingertips.

As shared in our firsthand GFiber review, if it’s available on your block, it’s worth every penny. While others are catching up, GFiber is busy powering your world. And that matters in 2026 … and years to come.

If you’re waiting on GFiber to offer service at your address, you can still rely on 5G home internet for its easy setup, or traditional cable internet for its fast and solid speeds, or even other fiber providers.
