These days, telcos are no strangers to offering a range of perks, big and small, to entice you to choose them over competitors. For Optus, it’s unlimited international talk and text to several countries. For Vodafone, it’s bonus data for the life of a plan.

And for Telstra, one of the big ongoing pluses is the Telstra Plus rewards program. If you’re a Telstra customer, here’s everything you need to know about Telstra Plus.

Telstra Plus for Telstra customers

It may sound obvious, but you need to be a Telstra customer to tap into the perks of the Telstra Plus rewards program. So if you’re in the market for a new mobile plan, here are popular SIM Only and Prepaid plan picks from Telstra.

Alternatively, you can become a Telstra customer by signing up for an NBN plan. Check out a daily updating list of popular Telstra NBN plans from our comparison engine.

What is Telstra Plus?

Telstra Plus is like Flybuys or a frequent flyer rewards program. First, you have to be an eligible Telstra customer, and then you have to opt in for Telstra Plus. The longer you stay a Telstra customer and the more you spend, the more points you earn with Telstra Plus. Telstra gives customers points based on how much they spend, and those points can be used for products or device discounts in the Telstra Rewards Store.

At the time of writing, there weren’t any extra fees to join Telstra Plus, and the only requirements are that you’re over 18 and have an eligible Telstra business or personal account. Note that only the Telstra account holder can redeem rewards.

Outside of being a Telstra customer, you’ll need to use your Telstra ID username and Telstra ID password to access Telstra Plus. If you’ve lost access to either, retrieve your Telstra ID username here or reset your Telstra ID password here.

You shouldn’t have to wait more than 10 business days for eligible money spent with Telstra to be converted into corresponding Telstra Points, but Telstra notes it typically takes between two and four business days. Bonus points, though, may take up to two weeks to appear in your balance.

What about Telstra Thanks?
Telstra Thanks was the name of Telstra’s last rewards program, which has since been discontinued. The same discounted movie tickets and discounted live-sports tickets, as well as pre-sale concert tickets, are all part of the Telstra Plus rewards program, though. Shifting from Telstra Thanks to Telstra Plus isn’t automatic, so opt in if you’re an eligible Telstra customer who wants to be part of the rewards program.

Telstra Plus points and tiers

Basically, Telstra Plus participants earn 10 points for every eligible dollar spent. For most Telstra customers, this will be 10 points earned per dollar spent on their monthly bill. This includes SIM Only, Prepaid, and internet bills, as well as handset or other hardware fees that are paid off via monthly instalments. There are also special member offers that occasionally roll around where Telstra Plus people can earn bonus points.

Note that points expire three years from the date they were originally earned. You can see how many points you have by signing in to Telstra Plus or by using the My Telstra mobile app.

Any eligible Telstra customer who signs up for Telstra Plus will receive entry-level Member status, but there are also Silver and Gold tiers. Here’s how the tiers break down:

  • Member: under $1,499.99 annual eligible account spend.
  • Silver: between $1,500 and $2,999.99 annual eligible account spend.
  • Gold: $3,000 or more annual eligible account spend.

You’ll attain and keep your current Telstra Plus tier for a membership year. But if you spend below during a membership year, you’ll be dropped to Silver or Member at the start of the following membership year.

Telstra Plus rewards store and discounts

Every Telstra Plus user can tap into discounted tickets for movies and live sports, as well as pre-sale concert tickets. Discounted movie tickets cost $11.50 for a child, $13.50 for standard, $15.50 for 3D movies, and $16.50 for Vmax tickets at participating cinemas (think Event Cinemas and Greater Union).

Silver tier Telstra Plus members get a 25% discount for selected content on Telstra box office, plus 30% off a Telstra TV streaming device. Gold tier Telstra Plus members get a free Telstra TV streaming device and 50% off selected Telstra box office content, plus VIP service within the My Telstra app.

There are regular limited-time Telstra Plus offers, which may include bonus points, bonus credit, device protection or partner offers. Telstra Plus was offering 5,000 bonus Telstra Plus points when you activate your Telstra One Number and add it to your compatible smartwatch and mobile plan for $5 per month as well as bonus point offers for spending with Huddle and Booking.com partners.

Much like a frequent-flyer rewards store, the Telstra Plus rewards store has a range of tech items separated into the following categories:

  • Mobiles and plans
  • Watches and wearables
  • Technology and IoT devices
  • Headphones and speakers
  • Gaming
  • Home office and internet
  • Cases and protection
  • iPads and tablets

Items on the Telstra Plus rewards store can either be paid for entirely with points or a split payment of points and money. Note that for more expensive items, there’s a minimum points requirement to unlock a discount.

Telstra Plus Market

The Telstra Plus Market is a somewhat new addition to Telstra Plus that’s designed for small and medium businesses. Telstra Plus Market lets participating businesses create Telstra Plus points offers.

The idea is that Telstra Plus shoppers have the benefit of more options for using points, while Telstra Plus small and medium businesses have a way to boost their online presence and reward customers. For more information, check out the Telstra Plus Market benefits page.
