There are a lot of different smart plugs out there, but not all are right for you. If you're on a budget, you're probably looking for something a little more simple. But if you want to spend a little more money, you can get something that's feature-packed.

Each of these smart plugs we’ve reviewed has their own individual apps, which we recommend getting. The app will unlock more features than if you were to just use Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. Your plug may also become just one piece of your entire smart home hub.

Wemo Smart Plug

We are starting off the list with the Wemo Wi-Fi Smart Plug. This plug is regularly on sale on Amazon and has a 4-star rating. We like that this plug is nice and slim so you can stack two of them per outlet.

Wemo Smart Plug can also set up schedules, and it has an auto-off timer. This allows you to turn your device on and have it automatically turn off after a certain amount of time. Wemo also has some cool features like away mode, which simulates you being at home even when you're not. It does this by turning lights or devices on and off.

Wemo Smart Plug also integrates with Apple's HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, and Google Assistant.

We don’t love that Wemo Smart Plug is a bit pricier than its competition with similar features. Also, it doesn't have any in-depth features like monitoring your power usage or the run time of your devices.

We do love that it makes a great gift!

Wyze Smart Home Plug

Next up we have the Wyze Smart Plug. This one comes in at $12 (as of this writing) and has a 4.5-star rating on Amazon. This plug has a lot of great features for its price. You can set up schedules, on and off timers, and vacation mode. This device also provides runtime reports so you can see how long a device has been on.

The Wyze Plug integrates with Amazon, Google, and IFTTT for some extra home automation.

The only con that we can really think of for a device this affordable is that it just doesn't monitor your power usage.

TP-Link Kasa Smart Plug

Next up, we have TP-Link's Kasa Smart Plug. When on sale (which it often is), this plug is one of the cheapest smart plugs we reviewed. It also has a 4.5 star rating on Amazon. This makes the Kasa very comparable to the Wyze plug that we just talked about.

We love that the Kasa lets you set schedules, timers, and scenes in the mobile app. And it integrates with Alexa and Google Assistant for some additional smart home automation.

This Kasa Smart Plug does have home and away modes, so it can turn your lights and devices on and off if you're not home. And it also has a runtime report so you can see how long the devices have been running.

Just like the Wyze plug, the Kasa doesn’t monitor power usage. We also don’t like how bulky this device is. It takes up the entire outlet so you can't plug anything in next to it.

D-Link Smart Outdoor Plug

The D-Link Smart Outdoor Plug is a great option if you're looking to control some devices outside. This thing is IP54 dust and water resistant. You can set up schedules, scenes, and on and off timers. It works with Amazon, Google, and IFTTT for that smart home integration. We only wish it was also compatible with Apple HomeKit.

And the great thing about this device is that it's got two outlets that work independently of each other. Plus, it has a USB outlet.

Note that you can't turn the D-Link plug on and off—it's always on. And it has no power monitoring, including runtime monitoring or actual power usage monitoring.

ConnectSense Smart Outlet

The last device we tested was the ConnectSense Smart Outlet. We wish we could give you a proper review because it has some features we were excited about. But this device was pretty much dead on arrival. We were not able to get it to work.

The ConnectSense Smart Outlet has two outlets that are controlled independently and a USB on the side. The other thing that we liked about this plug is that it was compatible with HomeKit, Amazon, and Google. It also has power monitoring, so you can monitor the actual power usage from this device.

We do think the ConnectSense is really expensive at about $60. You can buy almost six Wyze plugs or TP-Link Kasa plugs for that price. We’re also frustrated that we couldn't get it to work. So, unfortunately, we can’t recommend it. But we did want to bring it up since we did try to set it up and use it. It just didn't work out for us, so this is one you might want to steer clear of.

Recap

Our favorite smart plug is the Wyze Smart Plug. It works with all major systems like Amazon, Google, and IFTTT so you can connect your plug with all your smart home devices. It's also the best bang for your buck so we count that as a win.
