Buying an iPhone is a big purchase and, for a lot of people, can feel like a strain on their wallet. Instead of paying the full ticket price, T-Mobile offers its customers some of the best deals on iPhones you can find on the market.

I’ve been a T-Mobile customer for a decade now and most recently traded in my old iPhone for the latest iPhone 17 Pro, so I have first-hand experience in what it’s like to get a deal on iPhones through T-Mobile.

There are deals that suit different types of people: a new customer looking to switch to T-Mobile, an existing customer adding a line, or perhaps you’re just an iPhone lover wanting to upgrade to the newest model.  I’ll give you the breakdown of each deal and who it’s for.

Let’s dive in!

Key takeaways
  • There are T-Mobile iPhone deals for both new and existing customers. Whether you’re switching carriers or simply want an upgrade, there is a deal for you.
  • You must sign up for an eligible plan to get an iPhone deal with T-Mobile
  • There are lots of options — be sure to look carefully at each deal and its terms to see if its a good fit

How switching to T-Mobile can get you an iPhone “on us”

If you’re thinking about switching to T-Mobile from your current carrier, T-Mobile offers an iPhone 17 “on us” through monthly billing credits. Many people switch from competitors to lower their monthly price, or because they’re ready for an upgrade.

There’s no need to change your phone number, either. You can switch to a T-Mobile Experience Beyond or Experience More plan with no trade-in required.

Best for:

New customers who are ready to switch away from their current mobile provider to try something different, or those getting a phone for the first time.

Eligibility:

  • Experience More or Experience Beyond: $85+ per month plan with AutoPay, plus taxes and fees
  • Better Value: $140+/month with AutoPay, plus taxes and fees
    • New members: 3+ new lines with 2 eligible port-ins
    • Existing members: 3+ lines and 5+ years of tenure on a T-Mobile postpaid plan
  • Go5G Next and Go5G Plus (existing members only): 1 new line + 1 port-in

Fine print: The cost of the phone, up to $1,199.99, is covered via 24 monthly bill credits for well-qualified customers, plus taxes and a $35 device connection charge. Maximum four discounted devices.

What's the catch?

There isn’t a “catch” so to speak, but it is important to keep in mind that the billing credits typically are spread over a 24-month period. If you were to cancel your service before that period is up, the remaining balance may become due.

How adding a line can unlock a discounted iPhone

Current customers can get a discounted iPhone (up to $300.99 off via monthly billing credits) by adding an additional voice line to an already existing account. If you’re planning on getting a new phone for a family member or want a second line, this might be the perfect fit for you.

To get this deal, you must select an eligible plan. Be sure to check back frequently, because these offers do change!

Best for: Existing T-Mobile customers who add a family member or second line to their plan.

Eligibility: For T-Mobile customers on plans that cost $60 per month or higher with AutoPay, plus taxes and fees.

Fine print: The cost of the phone, up to $300.99, is covered via 24 monthly bill credits for well-qualified customers. At checkout, you'll pay tax on the pre-credit price plus a $35 device connection charge. No trade-in needed.

How financing and iPhone trade-in works

Looking to upgrade your phone as a current T-Mobile customer, but not wanting to add any more lines? You’ve got two options:

  1. Financing a phone
  2. Trading in your current phone

Here’s the breakdown:

Financing an iPhone with T-Mobile

Instead of a large, nearly-thousand-dollar payment, T-Mobile is willing to split the cost of the phone, bringing your price to a much lower, more manageable cost.

You can finance not only the newest iPhone, but older generations and other phones, as well. I financed my iPhone 12 and iPhone 15 with T-Mobile and the monthly cost was hardly noticeable and came with my regular plan pricing.

Best for: People who want to spread the cost over time instead of paying the lump sum all up front.

What's the T-Mobile NOTHING deal?

T-Mobile currently has an offer where you can buy a new phone and pay nothing upfront. You don't have to pay taxes, fees, or a down payment. Simply:

  1. Pick a plan
  2. Choose a new phone
  3. Select the payment structure:
    • EIP Flex 36: Well-qualified customers pay nothing upfront. The customer pays off the total cost of the device, taxes, and fees over 36 months of payments.
    • EIP Standard 36: Taxes and fees are due at checkout, with the device paid off over 36 months with 0% APR.

Trade in an iPhone with T-Mobile

For customers who already own qualifying iPhones, but want to upgrade to the latest model, T-Mobile offers a free upgrade on qualifying plans. To get the deal, customers on the Experience More and Experience Beyond plans can swap their current iPhone (if it is in good condition and a recent generation) out for a newer model. The new iPhone is then discounted over 24 months via monthly billing credits.

I recently traded in my old iPhone 15 for a credit that went towards my iPhone 17 Pro. The process was simple: T-Mobile gave me the choice to either transfer my data in-store, or take home both phones and mail in my trade-in. I chose the second option, which gave me a lot of flexibility in switching everything over.

Be careful, though! T-Mobile gives you a limited amount of time to mail your phone back in, or the trade-in credits won’t apply. So don’t forget to pack that old phone up and send it in!

Best for: People who already have a decent iPhone, but who want to upgrade to the latest and greatest.

How to choose the best iPhone deal for you

T-Mobile offers a lot of different deals on iPhones that you can choose from. Though, not every deal is going to be a match for you.

Our expert tips to get the best iPhone deal from T-Mobile

To make sure you’re getting the best new-iPhone-experience possible, here are some of my best tips and tricks to keep in mind.

1
Read the fine print.

Be sure you know exactly what terms your T-Mobile iPhone deal has attached. Some have certain plans that apply, lengths of service, etc.

2
Don’t plan on quitting your plan right after signing up.

Walking away right after the phone is in your hand isn’t the best idea. For prematurely cancelled plans (aka plans cancelled before the 24 month cycle has finished) are billed for the remaining total of the phone.

3
Keep track of your billing credits.

Promotional monthly billing credits don’t show up immediately on your statement, but a few months later. Be sure to keep a watchful eye so you know when they begin applying!

4
Compare the plan cost to the phone value.

Signing up for a premium plan may unlock discounts on the phone, but if it costs you more in the long run, it may be worth it to finance the phone instead of upgrading your plan.

5
Check plans from other carriers

Take a good look at the features and benefits of plans from other carriers to make sure you're getting a good deal. For example, some carriers have decent iPhone deals but offer deprioritized data, whereas T-Mobile offers priority data on its cheapest plan.

6
Before switching carriers, check if your current phone is still being financed.

When switching to T-Mobile, check with your old carrier to see how much you owe, if any, on your current phone. Some T-Mobile iPhone deals will pay off your old phone, but there are eligibility restrictions attached.

Why is buying an iPhone from T-Mobile worth it?

I’ve been a T-Mobile customer for years and I’ve been through all the stages of iPhone discounts. So far, I have yet to be disappointed with the coverage and experience I’ve had at T-Mobile.

Buying an iPhone from T-Mobile is definitely worth it: both for customers looking for a solid plan that keeps them connected with unlimited data and 5G coverage, and for customers who want the latest phone without shelling out the full cost on Day 1.

There is a wide variety of options, so it’s likely you will qualify for a deal of some sort, but even if you don’t, the financing options are a perfect way to get the newest generation without a huge bill.
