T-Mobile 5G Home Internet is the most accessible 5G internet provider with its high-value internet plans available to over 50 million people in 50 states.

Still, not everyone can sign up for this immensely popular service: A T-Mobile executive recently announced that a million potential customers currently sit on a waiting list to get it.

I’ve spent a lot of time researching T-Mobile 5G Home Internet, including looking over FCC coverage maps and studying our own data on nationwide availability. Give this guide a read to learn more about where you can find T-Mobile 5G Home Internet.

Where is T-Mobile 5G Home Internet available?

T-Mobile 5G Home Internet is available in every US state, although its coverage across the Western states has some notable gaps. According to federal maps and Reviews.org’s own proprietary data, T-Mobile 5G Home Internet is most widely available in the Eastern and Midwestern United States.

T-Mobile's internet offerings are consistent across all service areas—that's because T-Mobile internet uses the nationwide T-Mobile cellular network (except in Alaska, where the company partners with telecommunications company GCI). The plans and prices are the same whether you’re in Rhode Island, Georgia, Montana, or Arizona. And its new 5-year price guarantee is available to all new and upgrading customers. Use our guide to find the best T-Mobile internet plans and deals.

How is T-Mobile 5G Home Internet expanding internet service?

T-Mobile 5G Home Internet is in high demand, with over a million customers on its waitlist, according to T-Mobile Consumer Group President Jon Freier during the USB TMT Summit in December. T-Mobile can’t quite meet growing demand for its internet service because there are some dead spots in its coverage and also it has limited bandwidth to serve internet-only customers on a cellular network built primarily for mobile phone users.

To scale up for additional customers and add fiber to its internet roster, T-Mobile is working out a deal to acquire internet brands Metronet and Lumos.

T-Mobile is also potentially expanding its internet service by partnering with Starlink. Through the help of Starlink satellite signals sent directly from space, T-Mobile cellular customers can now receive service in former dead zones with no cell towers. Since T-Mobile internet uses the same cellular network as T-Mobile cell phones, this wider network coverage could mean increased internet access for millions of customers.

What are T-Mobile 5G Home Internet’s biggest competitors?

Not many internet options are as widely available as T-Mobile 5G Home Internet. As a provider that encompasses both big cities and rural areas, its best coverage competitors are satellite internet providers such as Starlink.

But in its massive coverage area, T-Mobile 5G also bumps up against other, non-satellite providers, like cable options Xfinity and Spectrum, fiber provider Verizon Fios (known for steadier speeds than T-Mobile 5G), and direct 5G competitor Verizon 5G.

T-Mobile 5G Home Internet availability FAQ

How good is T-Mobile’s 5G coverage?

T-Mobile’s 5G coverage is pretty darn good, encompassing most of the United States. T-Mobile customers can get 5G service almost anywhere—that’s around six times Verizon’s 5G coverage and nine times AT&T’s 5G coverage. However, most of the network bandwidth is dedicated to T-Mobile’s cell phone users; many potential internet customers are currently on a waitlist.

Can you take your 5G home internet anywhere?

Whether you can take your 5G home internet anywhere depends on your provider and plan. With T-Mobile 5G Home Internet, you can sign up for an additional AWAY plan in addition to your Rely, Amplified, or All-In Home Internet plan. However, AWAY costs extra (a whopping $110 to $160 each month with AutoPay).

It’s also worth noting that T-Mobile cell service and 5G home internet are different, even though they use the same network. So even if you have T-Mobile cell service, you aren’t bringing the 5G home internet with you—but you might have the option of using a T-Mobile hotspot depending on your plan.
