There are lots of things to like about wireless chargers, but for many the most important one is right there in the name. Cable management is a chore we could all do without and while the Anker MagGo Wireless Charging Station does cost a little more than most wireless chargers, it does sweeten the deal with the promise of letting you cut a few more cords than usual.

It's compact to look at and versatile to use with support for up to three devices at once and, most importantly, faster wireless charging of up to 15W. If you can afford it, that combination of qualities might make it the one wireless charger to rule them all. For everyone else,

How much does the Anker MagGo Wireless Charging Station cost in Australia?

Starts at $249
Anker MagGo Wireless Charging Station

In Australia, the Anker MagGo Wireless Charging Station retails for around $249. That price point makes it one of the most expensive wireless chargers you can buy in Australia right now. That said, it does justify that price somewhat in the sense that it's able to charge multiple devices at once and offer faster speeds of up to 15W.

Anker MagGo Wireless Charging Station : Design and features

Anker MagGo Wireless Charging Station

While broadly compact in size, the Anker MagGo Wireless Charging Station is a little chunkier than other wireless chargers. It's also just as rectangular in shape, though a little stouter than some of the other options. That thickness is very much a byproduct of the clever design here though, which does take some the sting out of it. More on that later.

Other details include a USB-C charging port on the left-most edge with an LED light conveying that the unit is working correctly. Then, there's a set of rubberised legs on the underside that add extra grip to whatever surface you happen to set the Anker MagGo Wireless Charging Station up on.

The top-most layer of the peripheral is where you'll find the first of three charging pads. This one features a gently textured circle and a set of magnetic coils for easy alignment. It offers charging speeds of up to 15W via both MagSafe and Qi2 with selected devices.

Pulling this panel upwards will turn the pad into a stand and reveal the second charging zone. This secondary surface will play nice with most Qi and wireless charging hardware, but it won't offer the fastest speeds that the hardware here is capable of offering. It's also smaller in size, which means it's more suitable for something like a set of AirPods than a second smartphone.

Last but not least, there's a third charging pad that can be pulled out from underneath the Anker MagGo Wireless Charging Station. This one is clearly only really designed for Apple Watch users, but if you're in the Apple ecosystem there's definite value in not having to carry one more charger around with you.

Fold everything away, and the Anker MagGo Wireless Charging Station works out to be about half the size of your average mouse. Weighing just under 200g, there's a lot to like about the idea of chucking this thing in a backpack or suitcase when you travel and cutting out the cords entirely.

Anker MagGo Wireless Charging Station : Performance

Anker MagGo Wireless Charging Station

While the practical benefits of a 3-in-1 foldable charger are mostly realised here, the Anker MagGo Wireless Charging Station does come with a handful of caveats.

The first of these is that using it to charge three things at once with any real speed requires you to use a pretty powerful power brick. The unit comes with 40W wall charger designed for this purpose, but if you lose track of it for whatever reason it might be a pain to find a wall charger up to the task of making this thing work as intended.

Even then though, the usual rules of wireless charging apply. If you're using a phone case that's thicker than 2.5mm, you're going to run into trouble here. The more things you're charging at once, the harsher the limit on speeds.

If you're looking to top up an iPhone, Apple Watch and a set of AirPods at the same time, you're looking at speeds of 15W, 5W and 5W respectively. That works out to a total of 25W so If you're looking to charge just one device, you honestly might be better off just using that aforementioned 40W charger.

In addition to a glossy metal hinge, the Anker MagGo Wireless Charging Station touts a few more heat vents than you'd usually expect of a wireless charger. Smart money says this is related to the temperature regulation tech embedded on the inside of the unit.

According to Anker, its "ActiveShield 2.0" temperature control system is guided by an "AI algorithm" and conducts over 3 million checks over a 24 hour period to ensure everything is running smoothly. This number is so big that it's basically meaningless to most people and more-or-less impossible for me to verify.

Fortunately, there are also a number of more traditional safety features. This list includes foreign object detection, radiation shielding, overcurrent protection and overvoltage protection. All this is nice to have but after a few weeks with the charger, I can't say that it's presence has had all that much of a noticeable impact on my everyday usage with the accessory.

Anker MagGo Wireless Charging Station: Is it worth the money?

Anker MagGo Wireless Charging Station

Aside from its claims about integrating AI and the lofty price-tag, I found myself mostly delighted by the experience that the Anker MagGo Wireless Charging Station brought to the table.

Even if you are paying a premium that's only worth it for those fully ensconsed within the Apple ecosystem, the hardware here largely lives up to its promise as a 3-in-1 charging solution that's more compact and easy to carry around with you.

The Anker MagGo Wireless Charging Station isn't going to be for everyone, but the allure of an all-in-one gadget that does more thing and takes up less space is always difficult to deny.
