Optus is making a few changes to the way that international roaming works for its postpaid and prepaid customers this month.

Although the exact costs vary between prepaid and postpaid Optus customers, the provider's roaming offering encompasses a pre-selected places that are designated Zone 1 destinations. For everything else, you're looking at Pay As You Go (PAYG) rates on prepaid plans and no coverage for postpaid ones.

Previously, that list of eligible Zone 1 locations added up to around 110 destinations in total. Going forward, it now numbers closer to 150. Note that not all of these destinations are countries in of themselves.

From 12 May 2025 onwards, the following destinations are being added to the list:

  • Aruba
  • Afghanistan
  • Bonaire
  • Curacao
  • Barbados
  • Cook Islands
  • Dominican Republic
  • Anguillla
  • Antigua & Barbuda
  • Bermuda
  • British Virgin Islands
  • Cayman Islands
  • Dominica
  • Grenada
  • Jamaica
  • Haiti
  • Monserrat
  • St Kitts and Nevis
  • St Lucia
  • St Vincent and the Grenadines
  • Turks and Caicos
  • New Caledonia
  • Trinidad and Tobago

If those changes have you eyed a change from your current mobile provider, you can find a snapshot of the most popular Optus mobile plans that support international roaming in the widget below.
