Optus is bringing back its weirdest Pixel promotion ahead of the holiday season.

If you pick up either the Pixel 9 Pro or Pixel 9 Pro XL through the provider before 17 November 2024, you'll snag the Google Pixel 8a for free.

Rather than knock a couple of hundred dollars off the price of either of Google's latest premium devices, you're getting two pretty similar Google phones for the price of one. It's not going to be for everyone, but if you and a partner or family member want to both upgrade or make the jump to the Google ecosystem, there's definitely some value to be had.

It doesn't hurt that both devices are pretty solid buys.

In our review of the Google Pixel 8a, we found it wasn't quite as good a deal as its predecessors but still had plenty to offer those in the market for a more affordable alternative to the likes of the iPhone 16.

"Even if it struggles to justify its rising price tag, the Pixel 8a is still one of the best budget-friendly phones you can buy."

Our review of the Pixel 9 Pro XL was similarly positive, though it ended up in much the same place.

"The Pixel 9 Pro XL is Google's best flagship to date. The high-end design, performance and camera hardware here may come at a premium, but it'll leave you with few complaints."

In any case, if you're looking to pick up the smaller Pixel 9 Pro and take advantage of this deal then you'll be looking at pairing it with any of the Optus mobile plans below.

For comparison, here's a snapshot of what you're looking at if you opt to go for the Pixel 9 Pro XL instead.

If you're already an Optus customer and don't want to change your plan, you can also buy either the Pixel 9 Pro or Pixel 9 Pro XL outright through the provider and still take advantage of the promotion.

This deal ends on November 11 2024.
