Nothing's latest budget-phone trades a smaller price-tag for big upgrades.
Announced earlier this week and released under the banner of the boutique brand's CMF label, the new CMF Phone 2 Pro offers a revised take on the formula laid out by its predecessor. On the inside, it's got an updated 'Pro' version of the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 5G processor found in the CMF Phone 1 plus the usual 8GB of RAM. The cheapest version of the device ships with 128GB of on-board storage. If you want more storage, a more expensive model with 256GB is also available.
Although the CMF Phone 2 Pro comes with a 5000mAh battery, on par with the one inside the CMF Phone 1, Nothing claims that difference in processor should equate to an extra hour of everyday use.
Those who pick up the CMF Phone 2 Pro can look forward to three years of OS updates and six years of security updates. This is comparable to what other Android manufacturers like Samsung and Motorola offer but short of what you can expect from more ambitious mid-rangers like Google's own Pixel 9a.
On the outside, the CMF Phone 2 Pro is built around a larger 6.77-inch 1080p display. Flipped over, the handset has a new two-tone design that looks almost like frosted glass. All told, the CMF Phone 2 Pro offers a little bit more on most fronts than its predecessor. It's 12g lighter and 0.4mm thinner than its predecessor and ups the ante to IP54 splash resistance.
It's easy to make the case that the rear camera on the CMF Phone 2 Pro is its biggest upgrade. While the previous model offered up a 50MP main lens and a 2MP depth sensor, the follow-up features a more rounded setup. It consists of a 50MP primary lens, a 50MP telephoto lens and an 8MP ultrawide lens.
The CMF Phone 2 Pro also ups the ante when it comes to its support for modular accessories. There are a bunch of new ones available through Nothing, such as a wallet-stand and a pair of alternative camera lenses. Like the original CMF Phone, Nothing is looking to encourage modders and those with 3D printers to make the device their own.
In Australia, the CMF Phone 2 Pro starts at $449 for the 128GB model and $509 for the 256GB model. The budget-friendly device is available to pre-order from this week via JB Hi-Fi ahead of a 6 May 2025 launch date.
