For a while stylists have had access to Dyson's professional grade Dyson Supersonic r hair dryer and now it is available direct to consumers.
The r has a unique design, which yes could be attributed to a lower case 'r', but to me it has always looked like a pipe. Stylist Gary Gil has called it "strange" and even said the design "could never work, but it's the complete opposite." It has grown in popularity amongst the styling world since its launch at Paris Fashion Week in 2024.
Hair dressers have praised its pint-sized power. The r is the most lightweight Dyson styler to date - a full 20% lighter than the Dyson Supersonic - and physically smaller than any other Dyson dryer.
Despite the small formfactor, the latest Supersonic maintains much of the same technology as the rest of the family. It has Dyson's high-velocity Hyperdymium motor, four precise heat settings, and an array of specialised attachments. It has the same RFID powered attachment learning as the Nural, allowing the device to remember the last setting used with each attachment.
The Supersonic r is available direct from Dyson for $799 in two new colourways. You can pick it up in Ceramic Pink or Jasper Plum.
