New figures released by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) have seen Exetel hold its ground as the fastest NBN provider in Australia.

This marks the third report in a row where this provider has held onto the number one spot. As per the regulator's 28th quarterly Measuring Broadband Australia report, Exetel topped the list when it came to both off-peak and on-peak performance. Telstra ranked in second place with an average of 102.9% of advertised speeds during periods of peak usage while TPG trailed in third at 102.5% respectively.

The ACCC's regular check-in with local internet providers covers most of the major providers, including TPG, Superloop, Dodo, iPrimus, Leaptel and Aussie Broadband. You can see for yourself how each of these providers compared when it came to download speeds, upload speeds, latency and more using the table below.

In line with previous data, the ACCC's latest report noted that FTTN fixed line connections performed "significantly below other access technologies for the NBN 50 and NBN 100 plans and accounting for the bulk of underperforming services across these plans."

Another long-term trend supported by the report is the gradual rise in service quality. Where fixed-line NBN services averaged around 99.3% of advertised download speeds back in December 2023. As of the most recent report, that figure now sits at 101.1% of advertised download speeds.

Nevertheless, the ACCC's data remains one of the better benchmarks out there when it comes to keeping tabs on which NBN providers are living up to their promises and which are falling short.
