Where to watch Eurovision in Australia
SBS has the exclusive broadcast rights for Eurovision in Australia, so the best way to watch it is either live on the free to air channel or through SBS On Demand.
The Eurovision Song Context runs from May 13th - 17th in Basel, Switzerland but that is the 14th - 18th in the Australian time zone. Each heat can be watched live at 5:00am AEST on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday, but there will be a delay getting them onto SBS On Demand. Right now SBS estimates the Semi Finals will hit On Demand by 8:30am on the same day, while the Grand Final will be available from 10:30am on Sunday.
If you'd prefer to binge the beats, there will be additional Access All Areas coverage of the three heats stacked up over the weekend. From Friday through to Sunday SBS and SBS On Demand will air the entrants with extra commentary and interviews from 7:30pm each night.
Who is representing Australia?
Considering half of your IG migrates across each winter, it is little surprise that Australia still gets the wildcard entry to Eurovision. Over the past 10 years we have had powerhouses like Dami Im, Kate Miller-Heidke, Guy Sebastian, and Jessica Mauboy representing us on the turqiose carpet, and this year we are repped by Go-Jo, the solo project of Marty Zambotto.
The French Australian singer seems to have his finger on the pulse of everything that makes Eurovision unique. His electro-pop song "Milkshake Man" is the right combination of unhinged techno and thirst trap that excels in the Eurovision arena.
So far our best result has been second place in 2016 with Dami Im's rendition of Sound of Silence, but we're not stranger to cracking the top 10. How our Milkshake Man shakes out is TBD, but fingers crossed he gets those boys to our yard.
What is SBS On Demand?
SBS On Demand is the free catch-up and on demand streaming service for SBS content in Australia. The free-to-air channel still runs on regular television, but these days you can use On Demand to get 100% free video streaming within Australia.
It not only has live content streaming via your internet connection, but holds a catalogue of more than 15,000 hours of viewing. These can be individual shows, but also features live channels like SBS Food Live Stream, NITV Live Stream, and SBS World Movies Live Stream.
Content can be streamed on digital tv set top boxes, smart tvs or connected devices, through the SBS On Demand website or app, and through Foxtel.
