FX's Award-Winning comedy-drama series The Bear first gave viewers a mild panic attack back in 2022 when Season One first premiered. Despite becoming a risk factor for people with heart conditions, the high-octane hospo drama was in instant hit. With two seasons already served, The Bear is definitively bingeable telly. If you're hungry for more, the wait is almost up, as all ten episodes of Season Three will release 27 June 2024 on Disney Plus.

With episodes typically running from 20 to 30 minutes (with the occasional 60-minute feast,) and a breakneck pace, The Bear is one of the most moreish shows currently running and it's all available on Disney Plus in Australia.

As a product of Fox's FX channel, The Bear is a 'Hulu original' in some markets. Well, we don't have Hulu here in Australia. Instead, pretty much every Hulu dish is fed to us through the Disney Plus funnel.

Disney Plus has increased its prices a few times over the years, most recently without adding much benefit to those who pay for premium. But that gives you two options for watching The Bear: you can go for a regular meal with Disney Plus Standard, which gets you HD streaming on two devices, or you can supersize your stream with Disney Plus Premium, which offers 4K streaming and Dolby Atmos Audio on four devices. The choice is yours. Just remember that Disney Plus won't offer a free trial with that, so you will pay for your first month as soon as you subscribe.

What is The Bear all about?

What is The Bear about? It's about food, it's about love, it's about the love of food. It's about family, and it's about loving food, both eating and cooking it.

Previously known for his part in the Gallagher family at the centre of the US Shameless, Jeremy Allen White plays the lead of Carmen "The Bear" Berzatto, a young, high-flying New York chef who heads home to Chi-town to pull his family's restaurant, The Beef, into shape after a tragic death in the family.

The Beef is an institution in its small corner of Chicago, serving up signature Italian beef sandwiches that'll make your mouth drool until you need a mop. But behind the scenes, it's a waking nightmare. Think about the most stressful job you've ever had and multiply that by ten.

Season one follows Carmy's often thankless pursuit to right the ship, bumping up against baked-on staff with a chip (or chips) on their shoulders, the health inspectors and new technologies. But Carmy's challenges are just one part of what makes The Bear so watchable. Allen White is joined by a tremendous cast; Ebon Moss-Bacharach, Ayo Edebiri, Lionel Boyce and Liza Colón-Zayas all get their moment to shine in the kitchen and on-screen. Pair those consummate professionals with A-grade editing and cinematography, and you've got one of the most intense and heartwarming TV shows currently available.

How does Disney Plus compare?

Disney Plus launched in Australia back in November 2019 at a humble $8.99 per month. At the time, it was one of the most affordable 4K streaming services with a small but popular library of TV shows and movies (remember when the world lost its mind over Baby Yoda?)

Since then, Disney Plus has seen a series of price increases in Australia. Once a more affordable niche service, the addition of FOX content and top-dollar events like the filmed Hamilton special and Taylor Swift's Eras Tour movie have pushed the price of Disney Plus skyward. These days, Disney Plus has two plans: a basic HD plan with two streams for $13.99 per month and a premium 4K plan with Dolby Atmos audio and up to four streams per month for $17.99 per month. Compared to other streaming services available, Disney Plus is now one of the more expensive ones. Take a look at the table below for a comprehensive comparison of Disney's biggest competitors in the streaming space.
