In late 2023, families across the world converged with Christmas cheer. Another year down, and now it was time to leave it all behind and spend some quality, wholesome time with their loved ones. What better way to pass the time over Christmas than settling in for a movie together? Unfortunately for many families, one of the most talked about movies that month was Emerald Fennel's Saltburn. And so, mothers, brothers, fathers, sisters and grandparents, cuddled up on the couch and walked blindly into one of the most heinous mainstream movies in recent memory.

Saltburn isn't as foul as its reputation suggests. Even still, your sweet grammy could go the rest of her life without seeing Barry Keoghan tonguepunch a bathtub drain, and she'd be happier for it.

If you're an agent of chaos, however, you can stream Saltburn on Prime Video in Australia.

After a brief theatrical run in November 2023, Saltburn quickly made its way to Amazon Prime Video on the 22nd of December, right in time for Christmas. While the movie is also available to buy digitally through services like Apple TV and Google Play, Amazon Prime Video is the only subscription-based streaming service that has it. Better yet, Amazon Prime Video still offers a decent 30-day free trial. So you can technically Saltburn for free if you cancel your Prime Video account before 30 days is up. If not, you'll pay $9.99 per month thereafter with no lock-in contract.

What is Saltburn all about?

Emerald Fennell's follow-up to 2020's Promising Young Woman, teams up Hollywood's reigning creep Barry Keoghan with its reigning heartthrob Jacob Elordi for a psychological thriller against an extremely mid-to-late 2000s backdrop (eyebrow rings and all.)

Oliver Quick (Keoghan) is a clever little scholar in his first year at Oxford University. What he seems to make up for with brains, he lacks in friends, charm and economic status. When an act of goodwill brings him closer with Felix (Elordi,) a young man who possesses all of Oliver's shortcomings, it becomes apparent that Oliver's home life isn't a very pleasant place to have to return to over the Summer.

At Felix's request, Oliver joins him for the Summer at his family's manor, Saltburn. Once Oliver gets even the faintest taste of a life of luxury, his past begins to catch up with him.

There's a brief moment where you might think Barry Keoghan isn't playing a weird little creep but before long, the king of creeps is back in full force, creeping it up all over Saltburn.

How does Prime Video compare?

We've consistently rated Prime Video as the best streaming service available in Australia. Not only is it one of the cheapest options (especially for 4K streaming) but it also offers some of the best original TV series currently available, shows like The Boys and Invincible

Sure the experience isn't as smooth as Netflix, and the compression can do a number on the stream quality if your internet isn't rock solid, but the fact that the one price also includes all the other benefits available with an Amazon Prime subscription, like free shipping, exclusive discounts, and free monthly games, makes it an incredibly compelling offer.
