Max (The one with HBO) is set to launch in Australia on March 31st, and we finally have local pricing. At full price Basic with Ads plan will cost $11.99 per month, Standard will go for $15.99, and Premium for $21.99. As predicted, Max is coming in hot with some launch-day deals to lure Aussies to the new streaming platform.

These discounted rates are only valid until April 30 2025, but those who sign up before then will get the price for a full 12 months. Changing or cancelling the subscription within this time will forfeit any further discounts during the 12-month discount period however. Annual subscribers however will lock in the cheaper rate for the full duration. There are no free trials available for Max in Australia.

While the discounted pricing harkens back to 2015 era streaming, the full price is pretty on par with other services available in Australia. Netflix, Stan, and Binge all span from $17-$25 per month depending on the subscription tier. With this pricing comes plenty of HBO content, with more to land once it begins clearing from Binge in the coming months.

All in all the new streamer isn't breaking the mould with this pricing strategy. The more users pay the more simultaneous streams they are rewarded with - two on Basic and Standard, and four on Premium - and resolution nerds will need to fork out to get 4K on Premium. The limitation on downloadable content is the one standout between Max and other streamers. Most other digital platforms add a timer to downloaded content rather than a limitation on the amount which can be offlined. Still, 30 episodes should be enough to entertain you most of the way to Europe.

Subscribers can't get in to snag their spot just yet, but this pricing will be available from the March 31 launch date.

A previous version of this article did not include information about the duration of the monthly discount price. This has since been updated.
