We already knew it was coming, but as of this morning Binge no longer holds any HBO content, apart from The White Lotus that is. With Max (the one with HBO) making its official debut into the Australian streaming ecosystem, it has officially taken back its premium content which has long been a drawcard for Foxtel's streamer.
While titles currently airing such as The White Lotus will still have a home on Binge until the season is through, the platform has lost plenty of its big ticket items. Game of Thrones, Succession, Barry, Sex and the City, and The Sopranos are now solely hosted over on Max.
Binge has been prepping for this moment. It will still host a bunch of popular shows like SNL, the Real Housewives franchise, and The Office (US), but has promised further investment into Australian content as well, piggy backing off the success of the award-winning Colin from Accounts. It is also making a push to remind users of the live television channels available on the platform. Plus it's scored the rights to the weekend NRL and AFL matches, sans ad breaks.
Over the past month Binge has been enticing potential platform-leavers with solid discounts, especially on annual plans. You can get Binge Basic for just $79 for the year, making the monthly cost around $6.58 - a price we haven't seen for a long time in streaming. Of course that is all for nothing if there isn't anything you want to watch available on the platform.
For those who can't live without HBO, Max is officially available in Australia with plans starting from just $7.99/mth (for the first 12 months) for Basic with Ads, $11.99/mth for Standard, and $17.99/mth for Premium. Existing Foxtel customers will get the new streamer bundled with their existing set-top box subscription.
