Frontier is a fiber and DSL internet provider available to 7.6 million locations in 25 states. According to Frontier’s earning calls, federal maps, and Reviews.org’s proprietary data, Frontier is most widely available in Marion, Plano, Tampa, and also has availability in Los Angeles.

Although Frontier gets praise for its rock-solid fiber service, nearly 40% of the households in Frontier’s coverage areas are only eligible for a slower, outdated DSL plan. That said, it won’t be like this for long: Frontier plans to upgrade its DSL areas with fiber in the coming years.

Before you jump in to Frontier’s coverage, we recommend punching your zip code below to see if Frontier internet is available where you live and what prices you get in your area.

Frontier primarily offers internet services in the Midwest and Northeast, as seen in our coverage map above. There is also some limited availability in pockets throughout the rest of the country.

Frontier’s fiber-to-the-home plans range from 200Mbps to 7,000Mbps and cost $29.99 to $299.99 monthly. Plans start with 12 months of promotional pricing, after which the monthly rate increases by $10.

In rural areas, Frontier offers its DSL service for $64.99 per month for varying speeds (call customer service to get the speed available in your location). Frontier is actively phasing DSL out in favor of fiber networks since DSL is an outdated technology prone to slow-downs. “I think full copper [DSL] decommissioning will be important, but I think in a three- to five-year time horizon,” Frontier’s previous CEO, Nick Jeffery, disclosed in an investor conference in May 2023. As of January 2025, there is no update as to when this process will wrap up.

In coming years, Frontier will integrate into Verizon’s network as part of the Verizon-Frontier acquisition. While exact plans for the transition are unknown, Frontier will continue to increase its footprint in the meantime.

Top 10 cities where you can get Frontier internet

Frontier offers its fiber and DSL services to large cities and small towns. Here are some of the cities where Frontier is available:

How is Frontier expanding internet service?

Frontier is planning to expanding internet service to 7 million more homes by 2026.

The other big news, of course, is that Frontier is set to be acquired by Verizon in a $20 billion transaction. Once the acquisition is complete, Verizon’s internet services will be available to a total of 25 million households, becoming one of the largest fiber internet providers in the market.

Existing Frontier customers are yet to find out how the transition will affect their current services, but a price increase seems probable because Verizon’s Fios fiber service is more expensive. “That’s always going to be in the back of my mind," says Sherwin Kamyab, a Frontier customer in Plano, Texas who suspects a price change. "I know Verizon is going to do that, but they're not going to do that right off the bat."

Frontier offers one DSL internet plan for $64.99 monthly for customers in rural areas. Since speeds are variable on a DSL connection, you can call Frontier for details on the exact speeds available in your area. To make sure you’re satisfied with the speed, a Frontier technician will run a speed test during the installation appointment. If speeds are too slow, you can decline the service without paying any fees.

What are other internet options besides Frontier?

Frontier’s coverage overlaps with Google Fiber and AT&T Fiber in Los Angeles, Austin, and San Antonio. We highly recommend Google Fiber and AT&T, which rank first and second place respectively in Reviews.org’s Best Internet Providers report for their fair prices, strong customer reviews, and fast speeds. That being said, they have more expensive monthly prices than Frontier, even after Frontier’s promotional period ends.

The other, more common alternatives to Frontier are providers like Spectrum or Xfinity. Even though these cable providers have attractive bundles and introductory deals, you get more bang for your buck with a fiber provider that has symmetrical speeds, better reliability, and no hidden fees.

If you want something a little simpler, a 5G home internet service like T-Mobile 5G Home Internet is easy to self-install and provides all-inclusive pricing. However, we still pick Frontier because fiber is a more reliable connection type, and it packs more speed for your dollar. T-Mobile’s Rely Home Internet plan costs $0.17 per Mbps, whereas Frontier’s Fiber 500 plan costs $0.06–$0.09 per Mbps.
