Those of us with butterfingers can rest easy now that Samsung has announced its latest heavy-duty handset, the Galaxy XCover6 Pro. Arriving this July at an RRP of $899, the Galaxy XCover6 Pro is an enterprise-focused and consumer-ready smartphone with military-grade durability that doesn’t skimp on the advanced network features of a modern handset.

How tough is the Galaxy XCover6 Pro?

According to Samsung’s announcement, the Galaxy XCover6 Pro’s design has MIL-STD-801H certification, a standard used by the US military to grade the durability and limits of equipment used in service. The certification process when applied to consumer products like the XCover Pro typically involves environmental stress-testing to identify any potential shortcomings or flaws that might impact a product’s typical life cycle.

The Galaxy XCover6 Pro also boasts IP68 water and dust resistance, the highest possible score on the IP (Ingress Protection) rating scale. IP68 offers complete protection against dust and waterproofing up to one-metre deep “and beyond.” Finishing off the ultra-durable design is the XCover6 Pro’s Gorilla Glass Victus+, the same glass used in the S22’s display.

The Galaxy XCover6 Pro’s commitment to longevity also extends to the 4,050mAh battery, which can easily be replaced; a convenience that smartphone owners lost a long time ago. Speaking of features from a foregone era, the Galaxy XCover6 Pro also offers a microSD port for up to 1TB of expandable storage.

Galaxy XCover6 Pro key specs

The Galaxy XCover 6 Pro’s durability might be its headline feature but Samsung hasn’t made many compromises to hit that sub $900 price point. The handset is 5G and WiFi 6E-ready, boasts a 50MP (F1.8 Auto-Focus) rear standard camera, and a 6nm Octa-Core Processor behind that durable outer shell.

On the face, you’re also getting a generous 6.6-inch Full HD display with an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz.

Galaxy XCover6 Pro release date and price in Australia

Samsung hasn’t nailed down an exact release date yet but has confirmed that the Galaxy XCover6 Pro will be available from July 2022 at an outright price of $899.

Can I get the Galaxy XCover6 Pro on a plan?

No telco partners have been announced for the Galaxy XCover 6 Pro in Australia yet but historically Telstra has supported Samsung’s tough phone releases. So if the Galaxy XCover6 Pro is available on a plan at launch, it will most likely be through Telstra. Here’s a quick look at some of Telstra’s most popular SIM plans to give you an idea of how much Big Blue is charging these days.
