The internet didn’t care about The White Lotus finale, should I?

It has officially been a month since The White Lotus season 3 finale and not only have I not seen it, but I haven't seen any spoilers either. No, I didn't go off grid, throw my phone into the ocean, or diligently block any of the terms on my socials. The spoilers have simply not surfaced. On an internet as blasé as ours when it comes to secret keeping, I can't help but wonder if the White Lotus finale is even worth watching.

Before you get your pitchforks, hear me out. With how our lives are structured these days the internet is the first place we go to vent, or to celebrate. Countless posts pop up everyday with news of engagements, getting cut off in traffic, wrong coffee orders, and astonishing television. You can hardly twitch your thumb without scrolling across a meme spoiling a movie, or a tweet exclaiming shock about a twist. Those of us hardened to it know when to ignore these snippets, but still some of the disdain or joy finds its way into our brains. Good or bad, movies and TV get spoiled.

That is, unless they're fine. Just fine. Not tweet worthy. Not meme worthy. Just ok.

I'm not saying The White Lotus is "just ok". It isn't my favourite show, but I do want to know what Rick is up to, if Gaitok and Mook make out, and whether it is a monkey that shoots the gun (which has been my running theory since the first 10 minutes of episode one). However maybe the finale is just ok. Maybe it is underwhelming.

After the finale aired the most information I saw centered around the cast and the crew. Amy Lou Wilson and Walter Goggins unfollowing each other on Instagram is as spicy as it gets in gossip land, but considering just how much that overshadowed the actual content of the show, I am skeptical. Was it a stunt? Something to keep the show in focus without relying on people talking about the episode itself? Was it a distraction?

One month on and the chatter about both the on-set drama, and the whispers about the episode have entirely died down but the 90 minute run time still sits on my television. Is an hour and a half of my life worth it to find out if the Laurie, Kate, and Jaclyn are still friends?
