Olá. Downstream is a weekly news round-up of the biggest streaming and television headlines of the week from your friends at Reviews.org Australia.

In this week's Downstream we're taking a look at the new trailer for Marvel's Ironheart and building on the newsletter with a quick look at what we're watching this week, and a round-up of the most exciting trailers from the week. I know Darren Aronofsky isn't the first name that comes to mind when you think "fun", but the trailer to his upcoming action flick Caught Stealing, starring Austin Butler and Zoe Kravitz, is just that. But first, is it time to get back into the MCU?

Marvel's Ironheart takes flight next month

This week, Disney Plus released the first trailer for Marvel's Ironheart, just a month before its release on the 25th of June.

I'll be honest, I didn't have Ironheart on my radar. The character's Wakanda Forever cameo just didn't catch my attention. To be honest, I had to look up which movie the character was first introduced in (even though I'd seen it). However, hot on the heels of executive producer Ryan Coogler's Sinners and some surprisingly positive reactions to Thunderbolts*, my interest in Ironheart and the MCU is starting to warm up again. Most exciting of all is creator Chinaka Hodge's foray into the mainstream after years of recognition as a poet and playwright.

As you might have guessed, the character of Ironheart traditionally has strong ties to Ironman. But with Robert Downey Jr's Tony Stark out of the picture in the MCU, Disney's version of the engineering genius Riri Williams seems ready to fly solo (with a little help from Anthony Ramos' Hood and Alden Ehrenreich's Joe McGillicuddy, which is definitely a real name).

Squid Game is coming back

The final season of Squid Game is officially hitting Netflix on June 27th. This season of the survival drama is tipped to be the most ambitious yet with director Hwang Dong-hyuk continuing to take on writing and directing solo.

A 17th Mickey is hitting (HBO) Max

The unhinged, heartbreaking, and hilarious MICKEY 17 makes its streaming debut on Max on Friday, May 23.

Directed by Academy Award winner Bong Joon Ho from "Parasite" fame, MICKEY 17 follows an unlikely hero's journey. Mickey Barnes (played by Robert Pattinson) has one job. To die. Over, and over, and over again.

Put through torturous experiments in the name of progress for a pair of narcissistic cult leaders - oops, I mean politicians -Mickey gets into hot water when his death doesn't go as expected. Toni Collette and Mark Ruffalo join Pattinson as his employers, whose over-the-top portrayal probably hit a bit too close to home for US viewers.

Sesame Street has relocated to Netflix

After Sesame Street's marathon run with Warner Bros, Discovery decided not to renew its contract in December 2024. This made Sesame Street homeless for the first time since 1969.

Netflix has swooped in, however, with a streaming deal that will see the staple kids show available through the streamer internationally. It will continue to air on PBS in the US as well.

John Wilson is doing alright

HBO's How to with John Wilson aired its final episode almost two years ago now and after three seasons of seeing the world through his eyes, there's been a Wilson-shaped hole in our hearts ever since. Well, fans of the show will be happy to know he hasn't stopped filming the often-overlooked aspects of New York City. Thanks to the Museum of Modern Art, we've been treated to a 12-minute catch-up with John Wilson, as he explains what he's been up to since his HBO show finished up.

HBO's latest true crime series investigates one suss Mortician

HBO has released a new trailer for its upcoming original docuseries, The Mortician. Arriving June 1st, The Mortician raises questions about mortician David Sconce, a man who, as evidenced by the trailer probably shouldn't have ever been entrusted with disposing of dead bodies.

I wouldn't say I'm heavily invested in this season, but any time a big corporation green-lights a show about an anti-capitalist, anti-authoritarian agenda it is worth watching.

I too have been watching Andor this week. I'm just behind a few... years. I tried to get into the first season twice before and bounced off but finally found my groove around episodes 4 and 5 when it turns into an intergalactic Mission Impossible movie.
