Where to stream the best A24 movies in Australia (for you sickos)
A24 studios is behind some of the best movies of the decade, so widdling down a list of its best films is tough. Within minutes our editorial team pulled out over thirty excellent films made by the studio, and I had to cut everyone off there. There were already too many content suggestions.
Instead of bombarding you (like I was in Slack), we’ve compiled our top 10 A24 movies, plus some suggestions of other films you might like if our main pick is your vibe.
Problemista
- Genre: Comedy
- Run time: 1 hr 44 mins
Written, directed, and starred in by Julio Torres, this drama blends surrealist elements with deadpan, absurdist humour. Torres plays Alejandro, an aspiring toy designer who's work visa is just about to run out. In order to stay in New York he needs to navigate the perils of beurocracy, and find a job with someone who is willing to sponsor him.
In his quest he stumbles into Elizabeth (Tilda Swinton), an outcast from the art world who is desperately trying to exhibit her not-so-late husband's work.
Like much of what Torres touched, Problemista feels like falling down the rabbit hole. His visual metaphors entrance and pull you away into a reality a few stops away from this one. Somehow everything is brighter, but also darker. It takes a true talent to give you both.

I Saw the TV Glow
- Genre: Horror/ Drama
- Run time: 1 hr 40 mins
I Saw the TV Glow is equal parts psychological thriller and emotional gut punch. It follows a couple of school misfits who dive head first into The Pink Opaque, a late night television show. The allure of the supernatural within The Pink Opaque calls to them both. A secret world, just beneath the surface of our own, where everything and everyone is different.
This show acts a portal for Owen (Justice Smith) and Maddy (Jack Haven) to uncover the parts of themselves they have pushed down. Reality blending with the Opaque. For some they'll be set free, but for others they choose to stay blind to the glow.
Like so many A24 productions, I Saw the TV Glow is moody, uncomfortable, beautifully shot, and absolutely heart wrenching. Owen and Maddy's search for their true selves is a visceral and confronting representation of escapism, and the quest for identity.

The Lighthouse
- Genre: ???
- Run time: 1 hr 49 mins
Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson are stuck tending to a remote lighthouse while storms ravage. Their isolation breeds comradery, delusion, and chaos as days passed with a drink turn in to weeks.
The Lighthouse has evaded categorisation, and frankly the less we say about it the better. It is a strange film that is downright confusing at times, but like many other A24 movies the acting is mind blowing.

Midsommar
- Genre: Folk horror
- Run time: 2 hrs 28 mins
American couple Dani (Florence Pugh) and Christian (Jack Reynor) are already having problems when more grief strikes Dani. Together with Christian's uni friends, the pair visit their friend's Swedish commune for the Midsummer festival, hoping for a restful time amongst the idyllic scenary.
Instead they find something much more sinister unfolding under the guise of blooming blossons, and intricate embroidery.
A horror film set in broad daylight made Midsommar an insant cult classic. Its artistry comes from the powerful juxtopositions between the content and the context.

While the team try to keep their filming under wraps, the reclusive Pearl keeps her eyes on them, reminded of her own time in the spotlight.

Bodies Bodies Bodies
- Genre: Horror comedy
- Run time: 1 hr 35 mins
A group of priveleged 20-somethings find themselves in a remote mansion for the weekend, but when a storm hits the whole trip is about to hit the fan. In the dark their pseudo-friendships and alterior motives come to light when an innocent party game turns deadly.
Shining a light on class and privilege, Bodies Bodies Bodies is a stinging satire of Gen Z and youth culture. The use of technologies like iPhones, and TikTok soften the edges of the horror elements, turning this play on the early 2000's slasher into a laugh-out-loud romp.

Eighth Grade
- Genre: Drama
- Run time: 1 hr 33 mins
Authenticity is a strange thing for Kayla Day (Elsie Fisher). Online she posts videos about self-confidence, calling for her (lack of) followers to embrace themselves. While in reality she is an introverted eighth grader struggling to find her place in the world.
Based on director Bo Burnham's own struggles with anxiety and panic attacks, Eighth Grade follows the horrors of being a 14 year old. From sexuality, to self worth, to the desire to fit in the film is gripped with despair and dread. And yet there is hope. Think back on how you felt at 14. Lost, scared, but excited for what life was going to bring.
