But the advertised price isn't the real price. The Broadcast TV Surcharge is about $25.75 per month, HD boxes cost $15 each, Cloud DVR adds another $5 to $10 (for 50 shows versus unlimited), and the base rate typically rises around $20 after year one. You can opt to rent-to-own an Apple TV 4K for $9.99 per month or buy it outright for $149, but that doesn’t have DVR so you’ll still need to subscribe to the Cloud DVR service if you want it. Mentally add $30 to $50 to whatever number you see in the ad, and judge from there.

Spectrum TV's reliability seems pretty good but not incredible. The Spectrum TV App sits around 4.7 stars across hundreds of thousands of app store reviews, which suggests most people find it perfectly serviceable day to day. Broad satisfaction polling backs that up to a point. Spectrum's legacy cable TV scores in the mid-60s on 100-point satisfaction scales — roughly average for an industry nobody loves — while TV Stream earned a 78% satisfaction rating in one 2026 survey and topped the "bang for your buck" category. That gap between the old product and the new one shows up everywhere in user discussions.

Some complaints are consistent across sources, though. Forum users and YouTube reviewers describe the included Xumo Stream Box as noticeably slower than a Roku or Apple TV, with laggy menus and sluggish channel changes. Reports of buffering and error codes during live events like NFL games pop up regularly. The issues are often fixable with a wired connection or a reboot, but annoying regardless. DVR is the other sore spot. Cloud DVR caps out at 50 or 100 shows, depending on the tier, which feels stingy next to YouTube TV's unlimited recordings, and DVR costs extra either way. Picture quality lands at 720p or 1080i for most channels, with 4K limited to special events through the app. Ultimately, the experience is reliable enough for most households, but the tech is a step behind streaming competitors.

Raw channel numbers are one of Spectrum's strengths. Select Signature's 150+ channels cover the 30 most-watched cable networks — think CNN, HGTV, Discovery — plus local broadcast affiliates. Platinum pushes past 230 channels in many markets. That's more than YouTube TV or Hulu + Live TV will give you, even if plenty of those channels won't get watched.

Sports coverage is solid for mainstream fans, with ESPN and regional sports networks included on Select Plus. A $10-per-month Sports View add-on covers NFL Network, MLB Network, NBA TV, and the like. DIRECTV still wins out for out-of-market games and specialized sports, though.
