Comcast Xfinity is a cable internet provider known for delivering fast speeds and is available to 63 million homes and businesses in 39 states. Based on its wide availability, you're more likely to get fast home internet from Xfinity compared to a fiber provider. According to the FCC, our proprietary data, and the latest Comcast earnings calls Xfinity is most widely available in Seattle, Atlanta, Boston, and Chicago. Xfinity works in some rural areas, but it’s mainly available in urban and suburban areas where it can run cables from its network to individual homes. If Xfinity is not available, there are many other options for rural internet providers.

Before you jump in, we recommend punching your zip code below to see if Xfinity internet is available where you live and what prices you get in your area.

Xfinity delivers cable internet speeds from 300Mbps to 2,000Mbps throughout the country with prices and plans running from 300 up to 2,000Mbps for $55 to $115 per month.

The exceptions to these rates are Xfinity’s Internet Essentials and Internet Essentials Plus plans, which cost $14.95 to $29.95 per month for 75 to 100Mbps. This is a more affordable option for qualifying low-income families. To be eligible, you can't have been an Xfinity Internet customer within the last 90 days or have any debt owed with any Comcast Account. A member of your household also needs to receive benefits from a qualifying government assistance program such as Medicaid, SNAP, or VA Pension.

According to the FCC National Broadband Map, Xfinity also has a small fiber footprint, providing fiber-to-the-home services to over 800,000 homes, and has plans to expand to Utah, Connecticut, and Florida. Xfinity’s fiber plans provide symmetrical speeds from 300Mbps up to 10,000Mbps for $55 to $299.95 per month.

Struggling to find service in your area? According to Xfinity’s support website, Xfinity may be unavailable at your address if the provider does not offer service in your area, you live more than 300 feet from Xfinity’s network, or your property owner has an agreement with another internet service provider.

How is Xfinity expanding its internet service?

Xfinity is continuously growing and plans to keep building out its network using fiber as well as DOCSIS 4.0 cable upgrades, offering faster speeds to an expanding number of customers. “We've extended our network to more than 1.2 million additional homes and businesses over the last 12 months,” reports Mike Cavanagh, President of Comcast Corporation in Comcast’s 2024 Q3 earnings call in October. “We're on a path over the next few years to being able to deliver multi-gigabit symmetrical speeds.”

Here are a few of Xfinity’s upcoming expansion plans:

Xfinity plans and prices

Xfinity offers cable internet plans from $14.95 to $115 per month for 75–2,000Mbps download speeds. Plan availability and prices used to vary depending on your location...until recently. I reached out to an online Xfinity chat agent who confirmed that as of a few weeks ago, all pricing is now the same across the United States.

Xfinity’s fiber internet plans cost $55 to $299.95 per month for customers in select areas, with speeds ranging from 300Mbps to 10,000Mbps. Plans do include hidden fees

What are other internet options besides Xfinity?

Xfinity offers affordable internet plans, but you can get more bang for your buck with other providers. Since Xfinity’s fiber plans are hard to come by, if you see the option for Google Fiber or AT&T Fiber in your neighborhood, these are our first choice in terms of better speed per dollar and overall quality. Fiber providers offer superior reliability, so you don’t experience as many slowdowns when more users share your network.

Other cable providers like Optimum or Spectrum are also good alternatives to Xfinity, but alas, they too hike up prices after a year of service, and you may only have one cable provider to choose from. For Spectrum, the only way to get out of the price increase after your first year is to bundle your internet with two mobile lines, a TV plan, or both mobile.

If you really want peace of mind, T-Mobile 5G Home Internet is available nationwide and offers flat rates, no extra monthly fees, and free router rental.
