OPPO is adding a new affordable smartphone to its roster this month.

The OPPO A5 Pro is built around a 6.6-inch IPS screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and a design that's more than a little bit familiar in terms of its overall look. At 1000 nits, that display is also plenty bright — which makes up for the fact that it isn't quite FHD in terms of resolution.

It doesn't hurt that it's built to take a hit either. OPPO's latest thrifty phone comes with an IP69 rating for splash and dust resistance and "military-grade" shock resistance.

Despite those durability-oriented details, the OPPO A5 Pro 5G has a slim profile of 7.76mm and weighs just 149g. Under the hood, the handset runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 6300, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of on-board storage. Then, on the back, the OPPO A5 Pro 5G is armed with a 50MP main lens and a 2MP portrait lens. Last but not least, there's an 8MP selfie shooter for those who need it.

Other bells and whistles here include stereo speakers, a 5800mAh battery, support for 45W fast-charging, a stack of AI-powered apps, expandable storage via MicroSD and a dedicated outdoor mode that promises to play nice with gloves.

OPPO Australia managing director Michael Tran framed the device as a response to increased interest from Australian consumers in the sub-$500 segment of the market.

"As our first A Series release of 2025, the OPPO A5 Pro 5G is a game-changer in this space, raising the bar for affordable smartphones with premium durability, performance, and design," he said.

In Australia, the Oppo A5 Pro 5G starts at $399 and is available to buy from this week through JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, Big W, Officeworks, The Good Guys, and the OPPO online store.

At the time of writing, the device isn't available to buy on a plan through carriers. If you're planning to pick it up anyway, you'll need to pair it up with a SIM-only plan like those seen in the widget below.
