OPPO is bringing a cheaper version of its latest budget-friendly smartphone to Australia.

Priced at $299, the new OPPO A5 5G sits right underneath the previously announced OPPO A5 Pro. On top of having a similar name, the new device also shares a lot of specs and features with its sibling.

On the inside, the OPPO A5 5G is powered by the same MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processor found in the OPPO A5 Pro. Unlike that device however, there's only 4GB of RAM to be counted on here. The storage is also about half of what you can find the more expensive model at just 128GB.

As with the OPPO A5 Pro, the OPPO A5 5G is built around a 6.67-inch LCD display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a HD+ display. Meanwhile, the back of the device is kitted out with the same 50MP main lens and 2MP depth sensor found on the more expensive model.

Despite those similarities when it comes to spec, the standard OPPO A5 5G does differ from to its pro-grade counterpart when it comes to looks with a more vertical-oriented lens array rather than a square-shaped one. The new device also comes in two different colors: Aurora Green and Mist White.

The last piece of the puzzle is the battery. At 6000mAh, the one found inside the OPPO A5 5G is slightly larger than the one seen inside the OPPO A5 Pro. The device also supports 45W SUPERVOOC fast-charging, which is much better than what you can usually find at the segment of the market.

The OPPO A5 5G is available from this week through JB Hi-Fi, Officeworks, The Good Guys, Harvey Norman, Big W, and OPPO Australia’s official online store.

At the time of writing, the device isn't available to buy on a plan through carriers. If you're planning to pick it up anyway, you'll need to pair it up with a SIM-only plan like those seen in the widget below.
