If you've enjoyed dipping your toes into the fantasy world of Exandria with The Legend of Vox Machina but can't see yourself sinking the hundreds of hours it takes to get through Critical Role's second campaign, I've got some good news.

The sophomore chapter of the world's most popular actual play saga is about to get a little more approachable. That's right, the Mighty Nein are getting an animated adaptation. What's more, you'll be able to find it in the same place as its predecessor: Amazon Prime Video.

How to watch The Mighty Nein on Amazon Prime Video

The good news is that we already know where you'll be able to find and stream The Might Nein in Australia. As with The Legend of Vox Machina, the series will be available exclusively to stream via Amazon Prime Video.

If you don’t think you can wait that long and don’t already have your own Amazon Prime Video account, you can sign up for a 30-day free trial and get through most of the series during that time.

In addition to being the home of one of the year's most anticipated streaming premiers, Amazon Prime Video also features plenty of great original video series that you can binge in the meantime, from Fleabag to The Expanse and The Boys.

The bad news is that we don't yet have a firm release date for the series.

The main reason for this probably due to the fact that animation takes a good long while to make. However, we can take a look at the cadence of The Legend of Vox Machina as an example to get a sense of what to expect. That series was originally announced in early 2019 and then picked up for series by Amazon later that year. The first season then debuted in early 2022, with subsequent seasons dropping in 2023 and 2024.

For comparison, the animated adaptation of the Mighty Nein was announced back in 2022. Given that, the expectation is that the series will make its debut in either late 2025 or early 2026.

To tide over fans in the meantime, Critical Role released an animatic for the project back in 2024. For a taste of what to expect from the series, you can check it out below.

What is Mighty Nein about?

The Mighty Nein

Source: Amazon Prime Video.

Set roughly two decades after the adventure adapted by The Legend of Vox Machina, The Mighty Nein is an animated series that takes place in a different corner of the same setting and centers on a very different cast of characters.

Where the heroes of Critical Role's first adventure put a twist on the tropes that fans of games like Dungeons & Dragons know and love, the figures at the forefront of the follow-up are a little more complicated. As per the official synopsis for the series:

"Mighty Nein follows a group of criminals and misfits who are the only ones that can prevent the kingdom from plunging into chaos when an arcane artifact capable of reshaping reality falls into the wrong hands."

If you can't wait for the premiere of Critical Role's second animated series, the good news is that the source material is fairly easy to find on both the Critical Role YouTube channel and Beacon.

With the whole adventure clocking in at 143 episodes (most of which are between 3 and 5 hours in length) plus a handful of special episodes that act as an epilogue to the series, Critical Role's second campaign is long enough to keep your spare time occupied for a decent while. However, unlike the most recent Critical Role campaign, there are no Abridged versions of each episode for those who are short on time.

Another thing worth noting here is that the first 19 episodes of The Mighty Nein cannot be found on either Beacon or the Critical Role YouTube Channel. Instead, you'll have to visit the Geek & Sundry YouTube channel if you want to start the adventure from the very beginning.
