Netflix is cutting off those still on its cheap ad-free plan

It looks like lucky Aussies still clinging to the cheapest Netflix plan available have reached the of the road.

As of this week, those who were still subscribed to the $12.99 Basic plan are being automatically shunted onto the $7.99 Basic with Ads plan instead. This marks the end of a process that began back in October 2023, when Netflix began to phase out its cheaper ad-free option in a bid to bolster its Basic with Ads tier.

At that time, it removed the option for new and returning customers to subscribe to the cheaper tier but allowed those who were still on the Basic to continue paying the cheaper rate so long as they didn't unsubscribe or change their plan.
