What is Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind about?

Loss

You know that feeling? Where everything hurts so much that you just wish you could forget. Forget the heartache, forget the way it tore you to shreds. Just blank it all out. That is what Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is about.

Jim Carrey's character Joel finds out that his ex girlfriend Clementine (Kate Winslet) has had a procedure to erase him for her memory. He decides to do the same. Throughout the process Joel is reminded about how deeply he feels for Clementine, and we follow along the fleeting memories with him - grasping and hoping they don't actually slip away.
