It only took Apple 12 months to increase Apple TV Plus prices again

The free trial might be sticking around, but the days when Apple's streaming service was one of the cheapest options are coming to an end.

As of this week, Aussies subscribed to Apple TV Plus are looking at a higher rate of $12.99 per month rather than the previous $9.99 per month. This most recent price-hike is even bigger than the one that hit the service twelve months ago, which brought Apple's streaming service up from a thrifty $7.99 per month to a less forgettable $9.99 per month.

Worse still, these changes to the price of Apple TV Plus are only the tip of the iceberg for those in the iOS ecosystem. A number of other Apple subscription services have also had their pricing updated overnight.

Here's the whole picture when it comes to how much you'll pay for Apple services in Australia going forward:

  • Apple Music Voice: Still $5.99 per month. No price hike.
  • Apple Music Student: Still $6.99 per month. No price hike.
  • Apple Music: Still $12.99 per month. No price hike.
  • Apple Music Family: Still $19.99 per month. No price hike.
  • Apple TV Plus: Now $12.99 per month. Was $9.99 per month.
  • Apple Arcade: Now $9.99 per month. Was $7.99 per month.
  • Apple News Plus: Now $19.99 per month. Was $14.99 per month.
  • Apple Fitness Plus: Still $14.99 per month. No price hike.
  • iCloud Plus with 50GB: Still $1.49 per month. No price hike.
  • iCloud Plus with 200GB: Still $4.49 per month. No price hike.
  • iCloud Plus with 2TB: Still $14.99 per month. No price hike.
  • Apple One Individual: Now $24.95 per month. Was $21.95 per month.
  • Apple One Family: Now $31.95 per month. Was $28.95 per month.
  • Apple One Premier: Now $49.95 per month. Was $42.95 per month.

Assuming that Apple opts to handle this price hike the same way it did the last, those currently subscribed to any of the above will receive 30 days' notice ahead of any increase in their monthly bills.

As you'd expected, a statement from Apple framed the price rises as a necessary step towards delivering better experiences and content for customers.

"Since launching four years ago, Apple TV+ has made history for streaming services by crossing major milestones in a short span of time, thanks to its extensive selection of award-winning and broadly acclaimed series, feature films, documentaries, and kids and family entertainment."

"Apple Arcade continues to offer players unlimited access to hundreds of incredibly fun games — nearly tripling the titles available when the service first debuted in 2019 — with exciting new games and updates added monthly."

"Since launching, Apple News+ has added more than 100 top newspapers and magazines to include a total of over 400+ publications.

"With the increase in these individual services, the pricing of Apple One will also be adjusted. It remains the easiest and best way to get all of Apple’s subscription services in one simple plan at the best value."

While it hasn't looked to follow its rivals down the path of ad-supported content just yet, Apple TV Plus is only the latest in a line of streaming services to raise its prices over the last twelve months. Amazon Prime jumped from $6.99 to $9.99 in June, Paramount Plus followed in August while Binge bumped up the price of its more expensive plans in September.
