Is this Lenovo’s answer to the MacBook Neo?

Lenovo’s looking to give its IdeaPad a fresh lease on life with the new IdeaPad Vibe, which feels more than a little like an attempt to chase the success of Apple’s MacBook Neo.

Arriving clad in a handful of colours and two sizes (14-inch and 15-inch), Lenovo’s latest lean laptop comes in two sizes and both AMD and Qualcomm variants. The former comes with AMD’s Rizen 400 chipset. The latter is armed with a Snapdragon X processor instead. Lenovo says that Intel variants of the line are due to arrive at a later date.

If you can’t wait and opt for the smaller 14-inch model, you’ll be looking at a WUXGA screen with 100% DCI-P3 colour and a 120Hz refresh rate. Meanwhile, the 15-inch model bumps up to a 2.1 K resolution. Look below that screen, and you’ll see a backlit keyboard with 1.3mm of travel.

The user-facing half of the IdeaPad Vibe also features a pair of Dolby Atmos speakers and a dual 5MP camera with a privacy shutter. When it comes to ports, you’ve got a fair few to play with. The Right side of the device is host to a set of USB 3.2 Type-A ports. Then, the left features a HDMI input, two USB-C ports, an audio jack and a MicroSD card reader.

As is common for laptops with this lean, the memory inside the IdeaPad Vibe is not upgradable. However, the device does come in a number of configurations that go as high as 24GB when it comes. Storage, on the other hand, is both upgradeable and available in sizes that go all the way to 1TB.

As with the MacBook Neo, the color options are a little more eye-catching here than the average laptop. Lenovo says it worked with the Pantone Institute to pick the pallete for the range, which consists of Cloud Grey, Luna Grey, Zen Green, Chill Blue, Dreamy Violet, and Radiant Coral.

According to Lenovo’s VP of Design Innovation for Intelligent Devices Brian Leonard, “Color is the most personal design decision people make when choosing a device."

“Now available in seven expressive new colours, IdeaPad Vibe gives people the ability to
choose technology that showcases a piece of their personality while delivering the AI
experiences and performance they expect daily,” he said.

In Europe, the device is set to start at an RRP of €799. While Australian pricing and availability are still to be determined, a straight currency conversion would put that price at around $1299. That figure doesn’t factor in the typical Australia tax, but it’s not far off what the MacBook Neo will run you nowadays either.
