Exetel will let you jump up to a faster NBN speed tier for up to free five times per month provided you’re on FTTP, FTTN or HFC.

Customers on NBN 50 plans or faster receive 5 free Speed Boosts every month. Within 15 minutes, these Boosts up your connection to the next fastest speed tier available for 24 hours. So NBN 50 plans will go up to NBN 100, NBN 100 to NBN 250 and so on.

Additional Boosts beyond these 5 days and Boosts for speed tiers slower than NBN 50 go for $2 a pop.

Here is how the Speed Boost system works across Exetel’s full NBN range:

Speed Boosts are available across all fixed line NBN speed tiers from the provider, apart from NBN 500 which is the fastest available. Here are the eligible plans;

If you don’t use your free Speed Boosts through the month they’ll rollover to the next month and you can bank up to 30 days for use later. Essentially you could save up your days for six months and upgrade for free for a whole month. Although it is also worth bumping up your speeds if you’ll have extra people in the house, or if a new game has come out and you want to be able to get playing faster. Or if you just want to test it out and see if it's worth upgrading.

The maximum speed you can get is still defined by your NBN technology type. So if you’re on an NBN 100 plan on FTTN, these Speed Boosts won’t magically make your line capable of achieving speeds of 250Mbps.

Currently these Boosts are only available on FTTP, HFC and FTTN technology types. But when we asked Exetel about the excluded technologies the provider simply replied “not yet,” which suggests that the offer may open up to FTTB and FTTC later on down the track.
