Samsung's smaller foldable smartphone is finally cutting down on the bezels that have set it apart from the Motorola Razr.

Announced this week as part of the manufacturer's Galaxy Unpacked hardware showcase, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 features a new edge-to-edge cover display that brings it in line with its competition.

Those who pick up the device will have a 4.1-inch screen clocked at 120Hz to work with on the outside up from the 3.4-inches found on the Galaxy Z Flip 6. This comes complemented by a larger 6.9-inch screen on the inside, which also has a 120Hz refresh rate. In overall screen size, the inner display on Samsung's more compact foldable smartphone is now more comparable to the one found on the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

According to Samsung, this reworked exterior has been matched by an equally intensive overhaul when it comes to internal durability. Under the hood, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is powered by a 4300mAh battery and Samsung's own Exynos 2500 processor. Then, on the back, the device is armed with a 50MP wide-angle lens and a 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens on par with the hardware found on the previous model.

When it comes to software, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 promises to offer further integration with Samsung-specific AI features like the Now Bar and Now Brief, as well as the multi-model Gemini-powered functionality akin to that found in the most recent Samsung Galaxy S25 series.

Although Samsung's previous Galaxy AI efforts have come with the small print that these features may only be free to use until the end of 2025, the company is now talking more openly about what the other side of that deadline looks like.

A Samsung spokesperson told Reviews.org that the company has "no plans to charge for default Galaxy AI features going forward."

An exact list or definition of specifically what features that does and doesn't cover remains to be seen. However, the fact that Samsung are finally saying anything is a notable change in tune by the company.

In addition to this year's flagship foldables, Samsung are also introducing a new, more affordable option in the form of the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE. This model combines the new software features found in the more recent models with the hardware and design of last year's Galaxy Z Flip6.

In Australia, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. 7 starts at $1799. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE starts at $1499. Both devices are on pre-order from today ahead of a full launch on 1 August 2025.
