Google's premium smartphone is turning ten with the new Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL and Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
For all the pomp and circumstance that comes with this anniversary, those coming to this year's roster of Pixel phones with the expectation that Google is going to give its flagship lineup an iPhone X-style makeover might be a little disappointed.
At a glance, what's here appears to be a pretty minor revision of the design language introduced by last year's Pixel 9 series. The one exception here is this year's foldable, which has gotten a more meaningful update in terms of overall form factor.
Compared to last year's Pixel 9 Pro Fold, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold touts a sleeker design, a new hinge, plus a larger outer display with smaller bezels. It's got improved drop resilience and is the first Google foldable to come with an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.
Even if this year's Pixel phones look like their 2024 counterparts, there are some pretty significant hardware upgrades to be found if you know where to look. For some, the noteworthy addition is the inclusion of proper Qi 2 wireless charging across the range.
This isn't quite a first for Android phones overall, but the Pixel 10 and its siblings are the first devices from a major manufacturer to adopt the standard, which offers compatibility with Apple's MagSafe accessories and faster wireless charging of up to 15W. The Pro models go one step further with Qi 2.2 support, which lets them charge at speeds of up to 25W.
Under the hood, every device in the Pixel 10 lineup runs on the new Google Tensor G5 processor. According to Google, this silicon offers 34% faster CPU performance and an improved ISP that should translate into faster camera performance. The cheaper Pixel 10 pairs this up with 12GB of RAM, while the Pro models ship with 16GB all up.
The camera configuration is another area where Google's latest gang of Pixel phones differ. The standard Pixel 10 has a 48MP wide-angle lens, a 10.8MP telephoto lens and a 13MP ultrawide lens on the back of it. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold has a 48MP wide-angle lens, a 10.5MP ultrawide lens and a 10.8MP telephoto lens. Finally, the Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL offer up a 50MP wide lens, a 48MP telephoto lens and a 48MP ultrawide lens.
As with last year's Pixel phones, Google's new devices come with 7 years of operating system upgrades and security updates. Similarly, the Pixel 10 and its siblings are set to add to the brand's legacy when it comes to AI-powered apps and features.
For everyday users, the most intriguing of these is likely to be the new Magic Cue. This dynamic UI feature promises to nudge you towards relevant information when you're using selected apps. For example, if you get a text from a friend asking about an event that's recorded in your calendar, it might surface that information within the reply window and save you the trouble of swiping between apps. It's not likely to be life-changing, but it is a little easier to imagine how this might be useful in a way that isn't always the case when it comes to AI-powered apps.
Both the Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL come with a free 12-month subscription to Google's AI Pro Plan, which gives you access to features like Gemini Live and more specialised models.
Another area where Google is more explicitly integrating AI this time around is the camera. The Pixel 10 lineup will bring with it a new camera coach feature that uses on-screen instructions to help guide you towards taking better photos if you don't know where to start. Then, more advanced users who opt for the Pro models can take advantage of improved image stabilisation and Pro Res Zoom of up to 100x magnification using generative AI.
Pricing for this year's Pixel phones is almost exactly the same as last year's lineup, with the exception being that the Pro XL is no longer available in 128GB. The Google Pixel 10 starts at $1349, the Pixel 10 Pro starts at $1699, the Pixel 10 Pro XL starts at $1999, and the Pixel 10 Pro Fold starts at $2699.
In Australia, the Google Pixel 10, Google Pixel 10 Pro and Google Pixel 10 Pro XL will be available to preorder from this week ahead of launch on 28 August 2025. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold will go on preorder alongside the above but won't launch until 9 October 2025.
