Samsung's latest pair of premium wearables tout a refresh look, an overhauled operating system and several nifty new fitness tracking features, including antioxidant tracking.

Announced alongside the company's latest lot of premium foldable smartphones at its Unpacked hardware showcase, both the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 and Galaxy Watch 8 Classic boast a new "cushion" design that's reminiscent of the somewhat infamous "squircle" form-factor seen in the Galaxy Watch Ultra. Like that device, the Classic also features a new quick button designed to get you into your workouts faster.

Meanwhile, the standard Galaxy Watch 8 bets big on the idea that less is more. All told, the premium smartwatch is about 11% slimmer than its predecessor. Despite that subtraction, though, the wearable boasts a 1.3-inch AMOLED screen that's as much as 50% brighter at 3000 nits. It's also built to go the distance, with a larger 445mAh battery.

Alongside all the usual slew of sensors like heart-rate, sleep and ECG tracking, the Galaxy Watch 8 and Galaxy Watch 8 Classic come with support for anti-oxidant index tracking. This feature allows you to measure the level of oxidants in your skin, which can correlate to the amount of fruit and vegetables in your diet. As with every other sensor found on Samsung's new wearables, the idea behind making this data visible is that you can then use it to make more informed decisions about your overall diet and lifestyle.

Other new features offered by the Galaxy Watch 8 and Galaxy Watch 8 Classic include an improved running coach, the ability to determine your optimal bedtime, Gemini integration and more.

Writ large, Samsung's latest pair of premium wearables promise to combine a more distinctive design with software that seeks to go that little bit further than the competition currently does in terms of tracking. That combination doesn't come cheap, though.

In Australia, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 starts at $649. The Galaxy Watch8 Classic is slightly pricier with a starting price of $899. Both devices are set to launch on 1 August 2025 and can be pre-ordered from today.
