Aldi’s latest $99 stick vacuum is better (but still not great)

Aldi is back with another 2-in-1 Cordless Stick Vacuum, and unlike the one it sold in August last year, this one actually has specs and they aren’t half bad.

The vacuum, available in the January 25th Special Buys, has a HEPA filter, a 0.5L dustbin, an additional crevice nozzle, and between 22-35 minutes battery life. None of these specs are particularly impressive, but they are large improvements from what Aldi was hawking last year.

In June 2024 the discount retailer was selling its Premium Handheld Stick Vacuum which had just 10-25 minutes of battery life, for $40 more than the current model. At the time we compared it to Kmart’s Cordless Stick Vacuum ($149 version), and recommended opting for Kmart instead. This year the competition between Kmart’s Cordless Stick Vacuum ($99 version) and Aldi’s 2-in-1 Cordless is much tighter.

Both have the same 2,200mAh battery, but Aldi’s version can handle 35 minutes on high while Kmart’s can only do 20 minutes. Kmart has a larger 0.6L dustbin, and three speed settings, while Aldi only has two speed settings and its 0.5L canister only has a net capacity of 0.35L. There are ebbs and flows, but it is pretty neck-in-neck.

Compared to higher end stick vacuums these two still fall short however. On average a stick vacuum has around 40-60 minutes battery life, and generally comes with multiple attachments for an all over clean. For those on a budget, Kmart still stands as your best option for an affordable stick vac with less compromises. However, we’d still recommend snagging the $149 over the $99. For the extra $50 you’ll get up to 55 minutes of run time, five operating speeds, a HEPA filter, a wall mount, and a dual crevice tool. Aldi’s selection is undeniably improving, but it still isn’t worth your time just yet.
