The new Dyson Airwrap Co-anda 2x hits the Australian market today with double the power, and a more thoughtful design.

Inside the machine is a fresh Hyperdymium motor which delivers twice the air pressure - hence the 2x. This makes for faster styling, with more precise air directionality. While we haven't had a chance to fully run the 2x through its paces yet, the inital outlook is on these claims is solid. Styling is markedly faster, but that could also have to do with the upgraded attachments.

On top of the classic curling barrels the Co-anda 2x comes with a fast dryer, an anti-snag loop paddle brush, an improved round brush, and the new Airsmooth2x attachment. The new round brush ditches the boar bristles for fine, plastic pin bristles instead, and while it might seem like it would affect the smooth finish, it absolutely does not. This one is my go-to styling attachment and the difference has been night and day so far. Where my (admittedly aging) old round brush routinely snapped off, and could only handle small sections, the new one glides and detangles without budging. The combination of the greater airspeed, and the sturdier attachment cut my sections down from 12-14 to just nine.

The new Airsmooth 2x attachment is pitched as the new anti flyaway gadget, but it does bear a striking resemblance to the Airstrait. The two work in much the same way, harnessing the air flow to push the hair straighter towards the ends. I don't think it is a coincidence that Dyson has decided against calling this a straightening attachment with how new the Airstrait is to the market - you don't want to cannibalise your own product. Still, it should get you similar results.

Each of the attachments use the same smart tech we saw in the Nural Supersonic to remember your styling settings. Equipped with RFID chips, the styler will automatically remember the last settings you were using with each attachment in order to streamline the styling process. It also uses Dyson's Bluetooth powered Curl i.d. system with the curling barrels which came out with the Airwrap i.d. last year.

Back on the physical design, Dyson has moved the power buttons lower down on the machine. The new positioning is more ergonomic and has made for a smoother experience in our initial testing.

The Dyson Airwrap Co-anda 2x is available exclusively through Dyson, and retails for $999 and right now you'll get a free Chitosan Post-style serum with purchase.
