Samsung's latest salvo of Android tablets are divided by size by united in purpose.

Due to land in Australia from 10 October 2024, the new Galaxy Tab S10 Plus and Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra come kitted out with Dynamic AMOLED 2X displays clocked at 120Hz, an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance and an Armor Aluminum frame that promises to offer improved durability.

As is tradition, both tablets also come bundled with an S-Pen stylus rather than Samsung selling it to you as an accessory. The baseline model comes with Wi-Fi connectivity as standard but 5G is available at a premium.

Aside from the asking price, the main difference between the two tablets is the size of the screens involved. The Galaxy Tab S10 Plus has a 12.4-inch display while the one on the Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra clocks in at 14.6-inches. Both devices also come clad in an anti-reflective coating that's more effective than the one found on the Galaxy Tab S9.

Although the form-factor here is familiar and doesn't deviate from too much from earlier efforts, this isn't to say that there haven't been any improvements. Even if they look similar to their predecessors, this year's pair of premium Samsung tablets are both thinner, lighter and more powerful.

Under the hood, both the Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 Plus and Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra run on MediaTek's Dimensity 9300 Plus processor. Compared to the Galaxy Tab S9, the Galaxy Tab S10 promises to offer a 18% gain in CPU performance plus a 28% gain in GPU performance.

While this chipset isn't being branded as the byproduct of a partnership in the same way as the one inside the Galaxy S24, a Samsung representative told Reviews that it worked with MediaTek to optimise the performance of this hardware in much the same way.

As you'd expect, the story that Samsung is telling when it comes to the question of how best to apply those performance gains has to do with AI. Unsurprisingly, many of the features introduced by the Galaxy S24 earlier this year (including Circle to Search, Chat Assist, Voice Summaries, Instant Translation and Sketch to Image) are slated to be inherited to the Samsung's latest premium tablets. Some of these features have been adjusted or reworked to take advantage of the larger screens on offer.

While the arsenal of AI apps here is fairly synonymous with the one on Samsung's latest smartphones, the Galaxy Tab S10 Plus and Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra do come with a few new tricks. For example, there's a new Math Helper feature in Samsung Notes that allows you to write out equations and shortcut your way to the answer. There are also new nifty handwriting assistance features built into Samsung Notes that can help you quickly align and transcribe your terrible shorthand into something more sharable.

In Australia, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 Plus will start at $1,799. Add 5G and you're looking at $2,099. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra starts at $2,099 for the Wi-Fi model and $2,349 for the 5G variant. Both devices will be available locally outright and on a plan from 10 October 2024.
