After taking its first uneven steps into the category back in 2022 with its Zone headphones, Dyson is now looking to make a more traditional play in the noise cans niche.

The newly-announced Dyson OnTrac headphones ditch the air purification tech in favour of colourful looks and a modular design. Like other premium over-ear headphones, the hardware here is built around a pair of 40mm neodymium drivers. These are backed up by a noise-cancellation system that incorporates eight microphones in total.

Those who care more about battery life than sound quality are likely to be just as pleased with the 55 hours of playback that the Dyson OnTrac over-ear headphones are said to offer on a single charge.

In terms of design, what's here looks of a kind with Dyson's other gadgets but a far cry from the blueprint laid out by the pandemic-grade Dyson Zone. Variety is the name of the game here, with four different colour options (CNC Aluminium, CNC Copper, Ceramic Mandarin and CNC Black Nickel) on offer at launch.

Dyson (and participating retailers) will also be selling a variety of vibrant outer caps and ear cushions, allowing you to customise and make the headphones your own. Other key features here include head-tracking, a flight adapter and real-time noise analytics via the MyDyson app.

In Australia, the Dyson OnTrac will go on sale on September 5 2024 at a recommended retail price of $799.
